Just saying hello. I am a new .22 shooter.

Went with a friend and played around with his mossberg tactical .22 and figured I want one for myself!

Started looking around and after reading tons of reviews, plan on getting me a S&W M&P 15-22 :) .

Have my list of parts I'm deciding to get and waiting untill my store has one in stock to purchase. (I work @ wally for remainder of my two weeks untill I start new job, so hopefully they get one in soon, where I can use my 10% discount still)

Looking forward to learning with this rifle.

I know everyone uses different ammo, but whats a good middle grade to shoot? I dont want to use cheap ammo.

What I plan on purchasing

CAA CBSM Collapsible Buttstock
CAA ACP Adjustable Cheek Rest
XTM Rail Covers
Mako mag well grip
carry handle by UTG
Magpul AFG
Magpul MBUS sights
UTG BiPod
2x 25rnd mags

Decent list so far? :)

Havnt really decided on a scope/red dot

Want something cheap that can get the job done from 25 yards-100 yards if possible.

First thing, welcome to the site!

Second, add about 8 more mags to your list. Trust me, you'll thank me later :D

Hello and welcome!

Buy mags & ammo. You just dont NEED anything else listed above IMO.
You posted that you were new to shooting.
Learn to shoot straight first, this is a skill that transfers to all weapons. By "shooting straight" I mean sighting down the weapon, the barrel and sights. The iron sights. Its just too easy to put a dot on a target 20 feet away, hit it and think you are now a good shot. Use the iron sights, buy ammo and mags.

Ammo? IMO, NO hollow points!!!
Wal-mart bulk (blue or red box) not the white winchester box is the least money for a good ammo

Def going to learn with just the iron sites for awhile. I am in no rush to buying these accessories, just listed the ones I was most interested from viewing pictures and set ups. Will be getting mags..I'm thinking about 3 bulk boxes and 5 25rnd mags for starters.

The 10% is nice, but do some quick math...it may be cheaper to buy model 811035 at a local dealer or online. Has all the magpul goodies and usually runs about 515-545. I realize though, with your discount it will be about a hundred less at wally world, but look into it. And I would shoot CCI.

Buy some different brands of ammo, and find what YOU like and what you rifle likes to shoot. Everyone has their opinion on what ammo to use. There is nothing wrong with the wal mart federal bulk ammo. I use it all the time and find it to be accurate in the way I shoot. Others might disagree.

Pardon me for jumping in here...but as a newbie to any form of assault type rifle what makes the MOE model worth about $100 more than the standard base model?

Hopefully I will have my rifle by the end of this week. In mean time I just order a Mgrip1, and a UTG bipod, get paid friday so after I pay bills, going to see how much I have to play with and get some 25rnd magazines. Which site has the best price shipped?

Palmetto State Armory did have them on sell for $16.99 with free shipping, don't know if that sale is still going on. Whenever they have the free shipping going on they get behind and it takes hem a few days to get things shipped out. 44mag.com usually has good prices with flat rate shipping, a lot of people on here swear by them. Keep an eye out for specials, usually out there.

The magpul furniture on the rifle has a value of around $215. So paying roughly $100 more or less for the rifle is a great deal.

Picked up my rifle. $407 :), wont be able to shoot it for about two weeks. But finally was able to track this puppy down!

congrats on picking one up. start stocking up on ammo, id recommend the 525 federal champion.

Go with a cheap red dot, I have a 42mm BSA it was $25, and it's enormous! Very wide field of view, dot is not so clear, but it holds zero well. The factory M4 stock and grip work well on this gun, save your money for ammo and mags. I got the MOE edition, and pulled the furniture off and swapped it with my 'real' AR, since it's heavier and recoils more.

The blue and red Fed boxes are hollow points by the way.
My PC models likes the red but not the blue. Likes CCI-Tactical even better.
You seriously want more mags regardless of what you do with it. I started with 5 25s to shoot Steel Challenge, then added 4 true 10s to shoot metallic silhouette. Since then I have added 3 more 25s and 1 50 rd drum. Even if you shoot with a red dot competitively still practice with a set of iron sights too.

Welcome to the club :D
First thing is clean your new girl very well before you go to the range.
to break her in I would shoot about two hundred CCI mini mags first ( higher velocity ). then try the other ammo. Mine likes the federal bulk pack at walmart and buy lots of mags you will need em lol.
