The book says 1974. Also you can date those all you want but don't marry them

In my youth I avoided dating 48s. Too clingy and possessive.

That aside, if it's a no dash it's 1959. Just my opinion but the 48 is the most mis-marked gun in the S&W line up. The OP's gun is probably a -3 but you just have to look at the features, like the sight leaf screw, the gas ring and barrel pin.
