Help from the pros.

1950's versons...
I'm not a collector as past posts have indicated. If I can have only one, Early model 15 or early 14? Or pre #'s. Want 1950's versons. Is there a massive difference between performance of 4 vs 6 inch barrels? I'm starting to confuse myself. Don't know which. Can only afford one. Please tell me the advantages of one or the other. Thanks fellows.

Hey Mike. I think I understand your dilemma. So, here is the advice of one man who has owned a lot of S&W revolvers over the years and sent a lot of lead downrange. And done a bit of small game hunting with revolvers as well.

If you are only going to have one, the use to which you will put it should be the determining factor. If your plan is to shoot at lots of paper targets and you just want to be as good as you can be at that skill, then I recommend you find a K-38 Masterpiece (or Model 14). These were specifically intended to be a target revolver and they are about as good as it gets in that department.

If self defense in the home or otherwise is the main purpose of the purchase, then a 4" Combat Masterpiece (or Model 15) might be a better choice. Those will also shoot to point of aim and are not bad at all at the target range.

A Model 15 was my first centerfire revolver, circa 1960. Traded that one away, but there is currently one in my safe. My favorite revolver. You can't go wrong with one.
