I'm looking at this on a local site and have never seen anything like it. The fella says it's a "ported" barrel. Looks more like a Bubba job done on a drill press to me. I have a 8 3/8 629 barrel I can put on it because I'm thinking the barrel is pretty much done. I may be completely wrong, what say y'all.

"Bubba" is an idiot! Walk away, no way to know what other damage has been done to the gun. Agree with this 100%: "Looks more like a Bubba job done on a drill press to me.". Definitely not professionally done!

Ugh! What a way to start the morning! Can't "unsee" that!

Yeah, I agree with you, that falls under "Bubba was here" in my book, in the chapter titled "What was he thinking?"

Here's one option: leave it as is and use those holes to attach a scope mount! ;)
Just make sure, though, that if you do, you run some jacketed rounds through it to "smooth off" any screw tips that may protude into the bore.

But, seriously: If you have a spare barrel, maybe you can negotiate a deal and save that poor puppy! If the seller gives you any guff, ask to see a factory letter.... HaHa!!

Please let us know! Would sure love to see the results if you get her fixed up!

It is a shame that we call gun smithing that we do not like "Bubba" . . . decades ago there was a very gifted gun smith in a suburb of Fort Worth Texas became known to the world as Bubba. I feel sorry for him and the fine firearms that came from his shop

That does not look like a guy in his garage with a drill press. It looks somewhat like the hybrid porting that Gemini does

Unless thee are better pictures, it is hard to say for sure. Based on that single image, the finish of this Model 29 does not look so good

If this firearm is priced as a frame only and the rest of the firearm is in good mechanical shape, this could be a perfect donor for a project I have been thinking of

The -4 engineering revision is after the Endurance package came into play.

I have always wanted a 10 5/8" Endurance package silhouette Model 29

The Factory produced 10 5/8" silhouette Model 29s are all pre-endurance package firearms. I have had the NOS barrel waiting in my workbench for years

Those 10" silhouette barrels, when used with the tall blade rear sight like you have, offer a great sight picture!
Yeah, that'd be a great pairing with an "endurance package" 29!

Don't mean to be a Negative Nelly - but I am no fan of Porting! It does reduce recoil slightly however it increases noise greatly which bothers me way more than the recoil! It also makes a great carbon and lead trap and extends cleaning times and frequencies quite a bit. It will also reduce velocity to some extent.

Some like the way it looks - not I. Some like the way it reduces recoil - I am not bothered much by that and hate the extra noise it creates. While some may like a ported pistol, it would be a deal breaker for myself and many others I am friends with. To each his own.

You said it was for sale on another forum. How much?? As a donor I would expect up to $800. However because of the 'porting' They are probably asking a premium. If You want it, get it. I personally would leave now.
