I can't post pics as the camera is not at the shop but the weapon is. I took in a 586-3 today in trade and I can not find any information on it anywhere. It has a 6 inch barrel, is blued, with Target grips (with no washer on the inside, just wood) SN- BBE29xx.

The interesting thing is that it has a laser engraved image of Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson on the right side of the frame with their names under it.

Is this a special order or custom shop weapon? I have priced it as I would a standard 586-3 but I am curious as to whether the engraving would add value.

I apologise for no pics but I am hoping one of you folks can enlighten me on the history of this weapon. It is beautiful and the engraving is tasteful.

I have not heard of or seen this variation. Does the right stock panel have a speedloader cutout so the etching is fully visible? This would be typical of a factory gun but the stocks are readily replaceable, as you know.

I just got off the phone with Smith and Wesson. He said gun shipped in 1989 with Pachmyrs:eek: and he has no record of the engraving or it being anything other than a 586-3 with white outline rear sight and orange insert. He said he is familiar with the image but he has not seen it on a 586 of that era and that they did not start lazer engraving until the mid 90's. I guess I made a mistake as the grips have a speedloader cutout but the engraving is on the opposite side. he said someone (maybe a distributor) must have had it dressed up...
