Help ID this .44 special 4" S&W

I think that he already sold it on GB. Although I know that we are always interested for academic reasons. I went over and looked when it was first listed there, but didn't follow up, and don't know whether it sold or not, or for how much.

It didn't sell, it looks like he ended the auction early with no bids. Probably got a good offer from someone, maybe from here.

Just a suggestion, while they are fixing the crown, I would have them remove the serrations from under the front sight base, and reinstall it, which would delete another tell tale sign that it has been modified.
Best Regards, Les

You are wrong about this. Having the rib grooves extend clear to the muzzle does not indicate anything. I have both a K-22 and K-38, both 6" guns, and both have the front ramp installed on top of the grooving, just like OPs revolver.

As a matter of fact this got me curious and I looked at all of my target sighted S&Ws, around 30 guns ranging from 1946-1980s, and with only 2 exceptions every one of them, J, K and N Frame, had the front sight ramp on top of the rib grooves! Of the guns with ramps pinned to the rib two were smooth and didn't show grooves under the ramp. These are a ca. 1955 pre-27 and about the same time pre-23 Outdoorsman. Only these two guns did not have the rib grooving extending under the ramp.

I have S118324. Bright blue, Target hammer and trigger, smooth Rosewood Target stocks, red insert and white outline sights.

I don't have a digital camera, so I guess you still haven't seen one!

I have one of those hiding around here somewhere......
