Hi guys I have and old 32 SW revolver but not sure how old or what its called. All I have is the serial number on the bottom of the handle and again on the revolver itself. The serial is 97241. Any help would be great. I tried to attach a picture of it as well.

That is a .32 Safety Hammerless, Second Model. It probably dates to about 1901.

It is not a rare handgun; in its day, this was one of S&W's most popular commercial models. Any large national auction will usually have a few specimens up for bid.

Top break .32s and .38s are not as expensive as the later hand ejector models (swing-out cyinder). The market value of that gun is probably in the $200-300 range. Its value as a family heirloom is much greater than any commercial value that attaches to the model itself.

Those don't appear to be the original stocks. I believe the gun would have come from the factory with molded hard rubber grip pieces.

Yeah I know the stocks arnt original my grandfather told me years ago he threw away the ivory or pearl (dont remember exactly) handles that were on it and fabricated some out of wood. I know the ivory should have not been thrown away.
