Just bought myself a 6" 5 screw pre model 28 sn# C13250X and am trying to figure out the front sight. Any help anyone can give would be great! Thanks in advance
Someone did an amateurish job of trying to turn a perfectly good Baughman ramp into a Sheard or Marble sight as depicted in the old Registered Magnum brochure. Unfortunately, the kitchen table gunsmith ruined a perfectly good sight. The only saving grace is that the ramp and ramp base are pinned to the barrel rib, so if you look around, you can likely find one and have a competent gunsmith fit it to the revolver to return it to its original sight picture (assuming the guilty party did not mess with the rear sight).
What does the rear sight look like? Normally a bead front like that would have a U notch rear. If it is still a square rear then only the front will need to be changed.
While the workmanship and finish may not win any prizes, it may have worked real well for the owner. New front sight and rear blade and is like it came frm the factory. Lots of worse things could have been done.
looks like a conversion done for PPC shooting. I recall back on the PPC circuit in the mid 70's there were several shooters who had their PPC guns modified with bead front sights and a "U" rear sight for for a finer sight picture especially for the 50 yard stage.
