Hello all,

I’m brand new here so this will be my first post. I recently purchased this S&W revolver from Bass Pro. I saw it and had to have it, mainly due to the unique insignia stamped on the side near the handle (appears to say “Osterreich Polizei”). My initial
Thoughts are it’s a Model 10 but now I’m unsure. Anyways, I found the thread from HandEjector on what information to submit in order for someone to help me ID this pistol. Below I’ve submitted everything requested on that thread (I think) but if I’m missing something please tell me what you need. Thank you so much!

1: there is no model number inside the yoke.
2: the serial number is 867860.
3: chambered in 38 S&W CTG, according to inscription on barrel.
4: barrel is approx. 5” in length.
5: has fixed sights.

Welcome to the Forum.

You have a British Service Revolver (BSR) that slightly precedes the Victory models. Victories have a "V" prefix to the serial number.

Yours has received an aftermarket nickel plating. According to the stampings, after British service, it went to a German police department that was organized after the surrender.

Thank you! Excited to finally join. Any idea what era this pistol would be ? Thanks!

Welcome aboard.
It was made for the Brits in WW II, so 1940 should be right.
During the occupation of Germany and Austria after the war, the allies equipped the German police with surplus revolvers.
The real Victory guys can say for sure, but I think that says "Austrian Po-Po". :D

Please don’t take offense (maybe some would?) but what sort of value would this pistol have? I couldn’t care less but I am curious if it has any value? For me, it’s a piece of history so regardless it’s valuable to me!
