Help me out, I'm torn!

Can't decide what to do. I have a beautiful mod 29-3 nickle,8 3/8 barrel 1985. Thinking about a trade for a mod 27-4 blue, 6 barrel 1989 just as beautiful . Give me some thoughts please.???

Keep the 29 and just buy the 27. Then you'll two to enjoy!! And, rumor has it, if you place the two in safe at night, they may multiply. That seems to be what happens at my place. Hope this helps. Thanks! Mick

Do you really want to be the sort of man who has a nickel revolver? Are you going to put pearl grips on it, too?

The blue M-27 is more respectable, has a reasonable barrel length instead of that Long Tom barrel on the .44, and .357 ammo is cheaper, with .38 ammo for most shooting and Magnum loads, as needed. And I'm a sucker for that nice checkering atop the M-27.

Finally, the M-27 kicks less. Unless you hunt deer with a handgun or live in bear country, you don't need a .44 Magnum. But a .357 is far more versatile for more people, and is a fine defense or small game gun. It'll take game like smaller deer and javelina, too. And it'll kill grouse easily with .38 ammo, on sitting shots where legal, and not ruin as much meat as will a .44. It's plenty for raccoons and coyotes, even for cougar. The .357 with the right ammo is probably the most effective handgun cartridge on humans, too.

Trade from a 29 to a 27 sounds like trading down to me. I seriously would keep the 29 and buy the 27 if you really want it. Do you shoot the 29? Will you shoot the 27?

Actually it was an impulse purchase! Would really like to have the blue 29-2 6 inch .and yes they do seem to multiply in the safe like rabbits! All my guns get a workout.

I’ve never even seen a nickel 29 with 8 3/8, so I’d keep it. Care to post a pic please ? The 27 is more common.

DO NOT TRADE THAT 8 3/8" M29-3 ! ! !

THOSE LONG BARRELS ARE MUCH SOUGHT AFTER, AND A BEAUTIFUL 33 YEAR OLD M29-3, IN FACTORY NICKEL WOULD CERTAINLY SELL FOR A PREMIUM......

IMHO--THE 6" M27-4 IS NOTHING SPECIAL. THAT BARREL LENGTH IS THE LEAST SOUGHT AFTER, BECAUSE IT GAINS VERY LITTLE IN PERFORMANCE OVER THE MORE VERSATILE 4" INCH VERSION.....

MY 8 3/8" M617 AND 8 3/8" M686 ARE BOTH EQUIPPED WITH ULTRA DOT 30MM RED SIGHTS. THEY SHOOT LIKE RIFLES........

OP, in post 1 you want to trade a 29 for a 27. In post 5 you say 29-2 6" in blue. I am confused( easily done )

Are you saying you want to trade a 29-3 for a 27-4 6", and then also get a 29-2 6" blue later?

If the nickel 29-3 8 3/8 is rare, I would keep that. I have toyed with the idea of a 27, but am not willing to pay the money when there are real nice 28-2's out there, and a 28-2 6" will shoot as well as a 27 6". It just will not look as pretty. same gun, less options

I'm not opposed to .44 Magnums, but think a M-629 with six-inch barrel is a better choice than a very long nickle gun. But I think a .357 is a better all-round gun for most people.

Certainly, the goal should be to have both.
The OP didn't initially say that he already had some .357's.

BTW, the last javelina a man of my acquaintance shot was taken with a Colt .38 Super. It was a have-to shot, at an aggressive pig after his dog and probably about to charge the man, roo.

IF the 8 3/8 29 in nickel is rare I'd keep that over the 27. Or buy the 27 outright. Once you let one like that go you'll see how rare it is most of the time.I'd say the 27 is far more common from my shopping experience.

I'm a 44 guy so the answer seems obvious.But I also love the deeeeep blue the 27 comes dressed with.I'd get both.Anyways,they are 2 classics.See them more like an investment than a passing fad.
BTW,the ''sound investment'' line works fine with little wife.Try it if need be,it just might work with yours!

OK, sounds like you already have the revolver sickness. Let me tell you, the addiction gets worse. Watch yourself with the model 27's too as they turned out to be extremely addicting to me; I now own 7 and 6 are nickel and the only one newer than a -2 is my -5 revision 6 1/2" barreled "Outnumbered" gun, which was part of the 12 Revolvers collection released around the 1990-1991 time frame. I also have a 629-3 Classic and a 29-6 Classic to satisfy my 44 Mag revolver hunger. Enjoy your new purchase and I think you will find that the new model 27 is a pure joy to shoot.
