If you're serious about carrying a revolver I'd recommend what I carry....a 3" either model 13 or 65 in .357 mag. No doubt about being +P okay and most average sized men can handle about any 125JHP load out there. The 3" barrel gives you the advantage of a full length extraction rod and an inch shorter barrel to draw. At gunfight distances you don't need adjustable sights and they snag on clothing unless you defang them.
Get yourself a good gun belt, like the Looper, and a Galco Combat Master holster and strap it on. Find the sweet spot on your hip and practice drawing with and without a jacket until your drawn is smooth every time, don't worry about speed.
You'll be as well heeled as anyone not carrying a shotgun.
