Help me pick out a revolver

If you're serious about carrying a revolver I'd recommend what I carry....a 3" either model 13 or 65 in .357 mag. No doubt about being +P okay and most average sized men can handle about any 125JHP load out there. The 3" barrel gives you the advantage of a full length extraction rod and an inch shorter barrel to draw. At gunfight distances you don't need adjustable sights and they snag on clothing unless you defang them.

Get yourself a good gun belt, like the Looper, and a Galco Combat Master holster and strap it on. Find the sweet spot on your hip and practice drawing with and without a jacket until your drawn is smooth every time, don't worry about speed.

You'll be as well heeled as anyone not carrying a shotgun.

If you're ok with a 38 a 64 or 10 in that price range would be good all around use guns. A basic 6 shooter in four inch meets most needs. That's what those models are

Well since I do carry I decided on a S&W m442 .38spl. It may see double duty for the wife since she is unable to rack the slide on any of my pistols.

One Gun? Many Applications?

If it is one revolver for house, target, and carry, it would have to be a .357 with 4" barrel. So I vote for the 686+ that will take care of business in the house or on the street, and can shoot cheaper .38 at the range. (the 4" barrel is accurate enough so the range shooting will be rewarding and therefore fun)

Cop trade-ins are fine. Like another post said, they are available and usually in good shape. But I would not get a bobbed hammer. I want full function. Take a look at Southern Ohio Gun on the internet for some ideas. Southern Ohio Gun

Carrying a 4" sixgun isn't that hard with a coat or longer vest. For the things you have listed I suggest a K frame with adjustable sights.

Maybe a model 67 or model 19

If you're going to do an open carry, range and home defense the model 64 is great. If you're looking for a concealed weapon, go with a smaller and lighter JFrame. I carry a 442 or 642 when I'm off duty. Each gun was new at $399 plus tax.

I have a 686+ TALO exclusive with a 3" barrel and love it. There are several configurations of the TALO exclusives, but I believe they all have seven shot cylinders, and forged hammers and triggers. They can be pricey, but are very good guns.
