Help Model 586 no dash

I have an opportunity to buy a 586 no dash nickel .357 in mint condition for $750.00. I am obsessing over it. I don't need it but would really like it. Is this gun worth $750.00 if it is as advertised? It has not been sent in for the recall (no "M"). Please talk me off this ledge. Thanks for your help.

The 'M' is of no consequence......

...for two reasons. First, you can send it back to the factory for free and the turnaround is pretty quick on recalls. Second, It may not even need it. I shot mine with heavy loads for over 5 years without a lock up, then I had a lockup and got the 'M' mod, and it turned out to be the ammo.

The price? Sound a little on the high side but in the ball park. I'm not sure how the nickel finish affects if, but if YOU like THAT gun, I'd get it. I don't see a lot of those, but I'm no expert there. I have a 686 and it's the last gun that would go in my collection

Is there a down side to the 586? It looks like a good deal but if the gun is not something that belongs in a collection then I will pass. I am real new to collecting and am not real into the investment end of it but of course I don't want to lose money either. ( But I guess that is an investment).

I think he meant the last to leave his collection, but I could be wrong. I do like my 686-1. It has the same stocks as yours is wearing. It also has a 4" barrel.

See if you see an N stamp on the right side grip frame under the stocks. Also maybe under the flat on the barrel when you open the crane.

The reason I would want a Model 586 is for the blued finish, but that is just me. I would not currently sell my 686 for the price mentioned. I would be happy to know my wife sold it for that amount if I died.

The statement could be a head scratcher, if you don't know the full context. Sort of like the old.....

"You can never put to much water in a nuclear reactor."

thought that was a good way to say if you like it and want it, then buy it - and if your wife can sell it for what you paid for it everything works out.

Yes yes yes… I know the feeling. "I am obsessing over it" if you don't buy it you will still be 'obsessing over it'. Sorry mate but that is a sad fact.


There are two more guns to buy that I am obsessing with. But I have walked away from them. it's hard but do-able. It is your choice.

If I had to liquidate my collection the 686 would be the last thing I'd get rid of hoping things would improve before I had to give it up.

I had decided not to send it for the 'M' mod, but after that lockup I wanted to make sure it wasn't the gun. And it wasn't.

The 586 is a classic, I am not a big fan of stainless but do love a nice nickel. 750 is a bit on the high side but when is a 500-600 dollar nickel 586 going to show up again? Negotiate but be prepared to pay the price if it is a gun on your list.

Buy it! $750 is on the low side if it's in mint condition.

Well? I hope you came to your senses and bought that Beautiful Nickel 586. The 4" guns are much more desirable and not a whole lot were made in Nickel and $750 is a pretty darn good price.
