Help, my MP9 compact has the mother of all jams...

I have had had my MP9 Compact for 15+ years and can count on one hand the number of times it failed to cycle and still make an obscene gesture. Probably have run 10K+ rounds through it and it eats any and all ammo it's fed.

Went to the range today and grabbed a box of Tulammo 9mm Luger out of the safe {a few years ago I just bought whatever was available... my bad}. I ran 30 rounds of another brand that just happened to be in the 3 magazines without any issues. Loaded up a couple of magazines of the TulAmmo {never again} and it jammed on the second round.

I dropped the magazine and cleared it easily enough and sure enough 2 rounds later another jam. Screw this I thought, I'll just trash this cheap Russian ammo and shoot something else.

The problem is I cannot get it cleared. I have maybe a quarter of an inch of slide travel and the disassembly lever won't budge. Can't be sure if there is a live round or just the old case jammed, probably at the feed ramp.

Can't see how to disassemble and am stumped. Any suggestions would be most welcome... and yes, I feel like a fool.

Without seeing it, I'd not be able to recommend anything. I've cleared several similar jams through application of abrupt force using extreme safety precautions (with the muzzle always pointed in a safe direction) and a rubber mallet or edge of a shooting table. Only where it was completely safe to do so, however: I cannot say whether that's the case in your situation since I have only very limited information about it.

You'll get it. Don't feel like a fool: every time I've done this has been for someone else; a lot of people get into this pickle.

Is the live round or empty case stuck in the chamber? If so, the most field expedient method for clearing the chamber is to place the edge of the muzzle on the edge of the bench, muzzle down and barrel and nose of the guide rod clear of the bench edge and use your palm to strike the back of the grip in a sharp downward action. MAKE SURE NOTHING IS OR CAN MAKE CONTACT WITH THE TRIGGER. I have yet to find an instance where this does not break the case's grip on the chamber and cause the slide to move rearward and eject the round/casing. It may take more than one repetition for you to get it right.

I have no solution other than a bigger hammer. Can you determine if the chambered round is live or empty by putting a rod down the barrel and checking the length?

P.S. A "quarter of an inch" should be sufficient to insert a flat bladed screwdriver for a bit more leverage...

THANK YOU! About three taps with the rubber mallet in increasing increments of force finally gained me the requisite slide movement to the rear {I had placed it in a large vice double wrapped with a microfiber towel and stood clear while "tapping"}. At that point the disassembly lever regained function, I then locked the slide back, depressed the sear and took it the rest of the way down.

The spent shell casing was fully seated into the barrel but a small flat bladed screwdriver enabled me to loosen it enough to break it free.

Now I'll get started cleaning the MP {to include polishing the feed ramp} along with my 649, Model 10 and my Bersa Thunder that all accompanied me to the range.

The MP9 is my favorite all time pistol which, absent cheap Russian ammo performs flawlessly. you guys are the best, thanks again.

I have been wary of shooting any steel-case 9x19 ammo in the three pistols I own in this caliber. I think my Glock 19 Gen 4 will eat anything and has never jammed or failed to fire in the five years I have owned it, but I've never been willing to shoot the Russian stuff in it or my P08 Luger. On the other hand, I have three pistols chambered in 9x18 Makarov including a CZ-82 and two Makarovs (one Russian and a Bulgarian). In those pieces I have shot 95% Russian or Ukrainian steel-case ammo and they never jam.

NICE WORK, Capt Steve! Lacquer from the steel case is a suspect. Use a solvent with ammonia and see how it goes.
