Hey all,

After putting about 500 rounds in my gun my buddy suggested I do a simple trigger upgrade to the Apex kit. Gunsmithing is NOT my thing and he offered to do it for me while I was away on business as he said he's done similar jobs on his pistols.

Lesson learned....

Trigger kit installed...and that's about as good as it gets.

1) he lost the pin for the trigger assembly, the one that goes through the body and not just the trigger, and used a slave pin to connect it all

2) if I remember correctly the trigger bar has a hook shape that connects and helps action the firing pin....that is not connected

3) as I was playing with it, trying to diagnose the issues, the trigger was acting funny...with the slide in a locked position I now notice the trigger spring isn't attached to the slave pin! 😡

I've been trying to find ways to disassemble the firearm to fix the problem/s but haven't been successful.

And thoughts or suggestions?

Yes, yes, I should have never let a nonprofessional work on something as important and dangerous as a firearm...lesson learned.

I'll try and upload some pics later.

Lol yeah I've given him tons of grief about it, more frustration really.

Hypothetically:

Thanks for or the responses. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any YouTube vids on this.

If I understand this correctly the trigger bar activates the seer, which in turn engages the firing pin. Correct?

If I cannot activate the seer with the trigger bar could remove the firing pin and back plate while the slide is locked back? Would I then be able to release the slide considering the firing pin will no longer snag at the seer? Hypothetically of course. Would that work?

Was on the phone with S&W and they're sending a new pin free of charge, thank goodness!

So what you didn't say in your original post is that you can not remove the slide because you are unable to dry fire the gun, is that correct?

Just a side note, is the magazine removed from the gun?

If you do have the slide assembly removed from the frame than the YouTube video I posted will show you what you need to do, about 6 minutes into the video.

FIXED! Or at least, trigger assembly is now done correctly. My theory worked out as I removed the back plate and firing pin, which in turn allowed the slide to freely come off. After that was actually putting the trigger assembly back together, properly, and seems to do ok with dry fire. There is also no issue with taking the slide off...thank goodness!

How'd you manage to get the back plate off the slide?

easy:
Pull back slightly on the striker assembly and you'll see a bit of plastic in the channel. With a small tool of some sort (anything you can get in there will work), push the pastic piece all the way into the channel, let go of striker assembly and pull out the plate

Yeah, as above! Wasn't bad and I had this crazy fear that doing that would wreck the gun...but it seems alright to me. Went to the range yesterday and put about 500 rounds in, tired lol. Now just need to work on my technique. The majority of my shots were left and low of my intended target.

I'm familiar with the process--I was asking the OP how he did it.

YEah, I just locked the slide back and then did the process of taking the plate off. Once I did that I carefully unlocked the slide and it very easily came off.
