Help on a 4566tws

Good evening guy's. This is my first post.
I just purchased a nice looking Smith 4566tsw. It's in very good condition. However, I need to replace the grips. They are awful. I pushed out the pin but they didn't seem to want to budge and I didn't want to press my luck by prying it off. Is there a sectet to it? In addition, I would like to remove the black tactical rail under the front. How do you do that?

Any good info on disassembly on this piece? Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the site. I too bought a 4563TSW (alloy frame). The rail is riveted to the frame. You would have to drill the rivets out. The grips have two flange tabs which fit under the opening in the frame. If they are too hard to push to the rear of the frame, tap them with a plastic or soft tipped mallet back away from the front strap. They fit pretty tight but will come off. What grips are you going to put on? I recommend the Hogue rubber grips.

Take the pin you just removed and place it in the small hole in the underside of the grip. Use it as leverage to push the grip away from the bottom of the frame. It should come right off. No mallet is necessary.

If you want to remove the rail, I recommend you send it back to S&W and they will do it professionally and plug the holes nicely.

Congrats on the new gun and joining the forum. You will love the gun and find plenty of good info on this forum. Mine is easy to disassemble, but hard to get back together. I have seen some threads on the topic of removing the rail, but your best bet would beto call S&W tommorow. Their customer service is very good.
