took the side plate off of my 686 and before i could take a look the hammer block fell out. I think i got it back together right is there any way to test or check if it is put in right?
With a empty gun cock the hammer back slowly and watch the hammer block, it should slowly drop down. Now hold the trigger back and let the hammer down and it should allow the firing pin to protrude through the backplate if you push the hammer forward. With the hammer down, finger off the trigger you should not be able to push the hammer forward enough to make the firing pin come through. And it will ratttle when shaken.
