I have a Model 17-3 K22 Masterpiece K9369xx. From what I have learned it has the target grip, trigger and hammer. The paperwork with the gun states that the part prices are good as of Oct 1969. I have tried to learn its date of birth. I checked online to learn that info is N/A. I went to the library and also Barnes and Noble with no luck in finding any books that would help. Don't want to spend the $50 for the factory letter especially this time of year. Is anyone feeling the Christmas spirit and willing to tell me the DOB? I would appreciate it. Thanks

K848782 - K946391

S&W 17-3 3rd engineering change took place in 1967 and the Diamond grips were done away with (sadly) in 68 just FYI
I'm wondering if you have taken the stocks off and looked for a date or #? probably will not be #'d to the gun but may have a date.

I also just picked up a 17-3. I got so excited that I started a new post. Thanks also for the manufacturing information since my gun falls within that serial number range.

I am really excited about my new purchase and really want to get to the range.

Thanks 2sigs. If its truly a 69' I am excited as that is my birth year. I have one other birth year gun. May be goofy but it kinda gets me going. My oldest fully functional gun is a Colt Vest Pocket 25acp that was born in 1919. Sounds like a good idea for a new thread.

I just purchased a k-22 model 17-3 with serial #852228.

I'm guessing it is 1972. does anyone have a accurate report on this serial number for a k-22 SW??
