Hello,
I am trying to help a family member with some of his late father’s collection. This is a photo of what I believe is an earlier J-frame. The guns are actually a couple hundred miles away, so I am depending on photos to provide information.

I can’t find this serial number is the SCSW, the letter in the serial number is what is confusing me.

Any assistance with identification is most appreciated. I am trying to get some more photos sent along, but this is all I have at the moment.

The J went to 1J in the 80’s, so I cant believe it is very old. Appears to be steel, so not an airweight...

The J-Frame SNs that have the J in the middle like this, usually referred to as the "Floating J", all occur in 1971-1972. Some sources indicate some may bleed into 1973. Look at the top of the J-Frame serial number list, you will find these on the top two lines as I recall.
