Help with K22

It cost me $45 at the gunsmith and I could have probably taken it back, but I have a thing about people that do a half-*** job...."I don't want find out about the second half".

Over the years I've had several mechanics mess up my rigs on simple oil changes. Broken oil caps, dipsticks and filter posts. I've had wheels come off twice after leaving the tire shops, one on a scary mountain road with my wife and son while hunting.

I try to do most of my mechanic work, change my own oil, rotate my tires and tighten them after they're changed. The same goes with my guns if at all possible. I've been jaded by CS in many ways, including Taurus, so letting people touch my guns always gives me pause.

I'll just mention that my 17 no dash developed the same problem 3 years ago and after a jillion rounds or so. I sent it back to S&W and they completely went thru the gun (new hand etc ...). It's almost like new. They were great to work with.

I'm not sure if they'd work on a pre 17, though.

Yeah, it's amazing how so-called "professionals" can earn undeserved reputations for good work.

Hello Larry
S&W will work on older guns but they have to be sent to The S&W specialty Shop. This shop is Not to be confused with the Performance center as it is located in the S&W Manufacturing Plant located at 2100 Roosevelt Avenue. It is a very small caged in area where Old Machines and Old world Craftsmen Gun smith's work. I saw it when I toured the factory in 2008 and was shown a Schofield Revolver that had been sent in and repaired by them. When was the last time you heard of anyone rebuilding a Schofield ? Most that answer the S&W service department lines will Not pass on this information you have to ask for the Specialty department to get through to them. I was told if they did not have the part's on hand, They will Make them...After Hearing this I feel all it Takes is a Fat wallet with a Lot of $$$$$$ ;)

Great info. It's good to hear that they will repair those older guns; even at higher cost. I know I'd have paid much more than the pittance that S&W charged me to get my 17 running again.

I'd rather have an invasive medical procedure than try to find a gunsmith that can do factory-quality work on a revolver.
