Good Luck! A friend need a back-up generator for her home dialysis machine. Every Government agency she talked to would rather she die, than get involved. Then she wouldn't be their problem! We ended up paying for it with a gun raffle.

Didn't know there was such a thing. I'd check the FEMA website and also with your local utility provider. Could be what you end up doing is trying to whack it off your taxes.

Once upon a time folks with medical issues went to the head of the power restoration line. That ended several decades ago with the development of reasonably affordable generators. Especially in cases like hurricanes or other widespread outages.

Timing is everything.
Copied from the link posted above...
"Generator is purchased or rented on or after the Governor's Declaration of a State of Emergency up to the end of the incident period or the date power is restored to the applicant's home, whichever occurs first".
Gov. Scott was a bit scattershot in declaring which counties were declared emergency after the storm.
Everything else in the link for purchasing a generator seemed pretty straightforward.
Good Luck.

I can say what happened in Texas. I talked to a family member who lives in Corpus Christi and lost power for 6 days due to Harvey. An organization (possibly an insurance company pool) called "Texas Windstorm" gave him some money.

He had to have an insurance claim number to get started. He had a generator already so they didn't pay for that. But they paid for the gas for it and 3 days of restaurant meals (they got power back before he did) and a substantial amount for "inconvenience."

Governors Don't get to Decide which Counties Get Declared
They put in Requests and its the Feds who make the Determination
of Whether and what Kind of Disaster Aid each county gets

Thanks everyone-rule3 got me closer to what I have been seeking. Supposedly, if you have a medical need for a generator, in a disaster area (Marion Cty. Fl.) you can be reimbursed for up to a 5.5 KW generator. And I meet those conditions. I have spent much time on web and phone trying to get some straight answers on how to apply. I will press on. Thanks guys.

Very true, thanks... I could have been more clear.
Info for me was spotty but I thought Monroe and Duval counties were among the first declared with Dade and Broward within a day or three.
Hoped that if someone who needed a generator for a vital need and managed to secure one before the Declaration was left with some recourse.
