Help with model 39-2

@oldgoalie Ever look at the 3913...
Jglsprings, No I haven't, what have I missed, pray tell.
I think what jglsprings is getting at is that the Model 3913 (in stainless/alloy) and the Model 3914 (in black/alloy) is the logical 3rd Gen successor pistol to the 39/39-2/3900-series full-size single-stack 9mm pistols. :)

While the balance and feel is not quite the same as the beloved 39-2, the 3913/3914 has been hailed by many as the best single stack 9mm production pistol that S&W ever made. The magazine capacity (8 rounds) is the same as the original 39/39-2 magazine capacity although the barrel is half an inch shorter (3.5" vs. 4.0").

It is worthy of your consideration if you continue to lack confidence in a pistol for EDC as old as the 39-2 but still want something similar. I personally own four of them so I guess you could call me a Model 3913 fanboy. :D

Ahhh...wisdom

Thank you, so they did bottle the magic. I did a little reading, and this looks extremely interesting. So now the project is to get the 39-2 working. (Life got in the way of making it to the range today, but I'll get there within the week.) then to look for a 3913 to work. Thanks for all the inputs, I truly appreciate the sharing of knowledge. I hope I can return the favor.

I think I'll chase the 3913, even if I get confidence in the model 39-2.

Before Bam-Bam and others pipe in, you should know that there are a few versions of the 3913/3914 that are held in even higher regard by some members: The 3913LS/3914LS (the "Lady Smith" versions) and the 3913NL/3914NL (same as the "Lady Smith" versions but without any "Lady Smith" markings... hence "No Logo"). :)

There are also the "pre-rail" 3913TSW and the "railed" 3913TSW that you should check out. :D

I very much prefer the 3906, which is all-stainless and heavier in weight. The 39-2 has an alloy frame and the 3906 feels FAR heavier in comparison. S&W simply quit making them because it seemed like a full size and heavy single stack 9mm made very little sense in the heyday of the "wondernine" and as I was also big in to the gun scene circa 1992... it would have been hard to argue with their logic.

That means today, when we chase them for nostalgia... we find that they are difficult at best to track down. There's many truckloads of 5906's, 3913's, 915's and 39-2's but a 3906 is far more difficult to acquire.

But I totally love mine! :D
