Several years ago I purchased a Cold Steel Military Classic. As you can see, this is a copy of a Randall number one.

It comes with a black micarta handle, which is extremely slippery. All the Randalls I have seen have a stag handle, which because of the lumps and valleys should give you a good grip.

I am seeking suggestions on how to make this less slippery and more grippable. If I was a stock maker and was experienced in checkering, I would checker this thing, but I'm not so I don't.

The only thing I can come up with is skateboard tape. Either that or paint it with glue and then sprinkle fine sand on it. I'm not really thrilled with either thought.

Tape first, easy, reversible.
If that don’t work, sanding, roughing.
Here’s my Randall No.1 with Micarta, I ordered it that way from Orlando.
Also ordered Finger Grooves.
Tilt! Forgot to tell them I’m a Lefty. So I got Righthand Groovies!

I have no experience with Micarta.
That caveat being said.

I'd think you'd have a ton of options.
From changing the handle out to stippling it.
Stippling it with a heated punch sounds easy and effective.
Even just the underside would work IMHO

I would first roughen the surface ...

A light sand blasting (StrawHat's suggestion) would be great.
I would try an abrasive paper or pad to give the surface some texture.
It shouldn't take much hand work ...

Grip Tape will work ... but unsightly ... there must be a better way.

Wire or Leather Wrap on the handle ? That would look good !

I recently bought this Colt Police Special and the stocks were toast. I used self-adhesive electrical splicing tape. It would come right off that knife without any damage to the handl

Depending on what the circumference of the handle is and what size hands you have, how about wrap it with cord or rawhide?
