Here's some .38 Special +P ammo I had not seen before...(pic)...

I wondered if they were used as a training round for the +p 158 gr LHP, same load, cheaper bullet? As the 148 gr wadcutters were being replaced for training, budgets would have been an issue. There were agencies who issued the +p 158 gr non hp semi wadcutter rounds for the same reasons Hayes brought up, I think his explanation makes the most sense.

Bearpa on the forum here (who also happens to be MY pa) worked for a large PD in Michigan during the late 60's and has told me similar stories about officers changing out ammo after line up, and that some had been fired for it. They were issued 5" M-10s and the 158 gr LRN. He said handloads and Super Vels were pretty popular. He is still on the job, and is still super fast and accurate with a K frame.
