Heritage Arms

I shot one at a club match a few years ago and came away impressed by it’s accuracy and overall quality. With Black Friday and Christmas sales and the $30.00 rebate a sub $100.00 plinker is tempting me.

I've owned a couple in the past, and found them to "adequate" shall we say. As nice as a Ruger? Oh heck no. But then a Ruger cost about four times what a Heritage sells for, even with the Ruger being used. A NIB Ruger costs more.

A few weeks or so ago, my wife saw a Heritage with a 3.5" or so barrel, and a set of fake MOP birdshead grips. She wanted it, she got it. It hasn't been shot a lot, maybe never will be, but darned if that little thing hasn't grown on me. I used to have a Ruger Bearcat that I thought was a great "bum around the woods" gun, and it was just that. This Heritage could fit into that niche just fine.

Of course, I don't get out and bum around the woods much anymore, but if I did...I'd want another one.

Now, vs the Ruger Wrangler? The Wrangler has an unfluted cylinder, a feature I do not care for, so I've never even looked at one.

I bought one last year with the 6½" barrle at $99 after rebate then picked up a .22 mag cylinder for another $29. For the money they can't be beat. It is a lot of fun just as a plinker and training gun for my grandkids. It's good for close range rabbits and other little farm critters. I'm not disappointed one bit.

Believe it or not, I have purchased two Heritage Rough rider revolvers in the last year or so, a 2" Barkeep and a 4 5/8 barrel "Bootlegger". Both are more accurate than you would believe for such inexpensive guns, I have actually gotten quite good with them. I shoot them just as good as I do a 4 5/8" barrel Ruger Single Six.

Here's a pic of the Bootlegger, I have $70 in this one after the pawn shop I got it from gave me some trade value on some flea market items I had at the time of purchase:

The Barkeep, way more accurate than you think a 2" barrel .22 revolver should be. Sights are regulated dead on, easy to hit with out to 30 yards:

Hits on a 8" steel target at 30 yards, standing two hand hold:

Lots of Black Friday deals on these guns out there, almost give away prices...

Family firearms have a six inch barrel gun for about 88 bucks plus 15 dollars shipping but no sales tax or credit card fees and you get a $30 rebate. So after rebate, the gun delivered to your FFL is about $73. I think I’ll buy myself an early Christmas present for grins and giggles.

I just purchased a Rough Rider 6.5 inch combo and I'm very pleased. Initial test prove it to be quite accurate, pleasant to shoot and it came with some very nice Cocoblo grips. It also has very nice adjustable visi sights, a boon for my aging eyes. By the way my son has a Rough Rider that is all steel. We can now purchase the alloy ones in Minnesota. It's still against the law but our legislature greed to ignore that law and allow purchase. Government at its finest. I traded Ruger Wrangler for this as I had two of them. The wrangler is also a fine reasonable priced single action revolver.

I'm not wishing to hi-jack this thread, but I've sure taken a shine to one of the 3 1/2" barreled birds head models and wonder if any of y'all would know of which dealer-[Grab a gun, Bud's, Kentucky gun co.] or some other I don't know of would have the best black Friday sale on one?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Buckshot Bill

Bud's has them for 89.95 after rebate with free shipping.

FYI they have CCI 36gr HP Mini-mags for 8.95 per 100

Bill, I got my 3.5" birdshead convertible from Dahlonega Armory for $137.49 before the $30 rebate. Shipping was $29.99, so there goes the rebate, but that's a deal.

Thanks, Erich. With the shipping, it's kind of a "push" on the rebate, but that's still a great price on what looks like a fun to own six shooter.

I am not a fan of loading gates. I do have a Ruger single six, that covers the SA revolver niche for me. I much prefer the roll out cylinder. Otherwise, I would have no qualms about the Heritage revolvers.
