I am in need of some grips for my model 58. It currently has magnas on it which I am finding a bit on the small size for shooting magnum loads. The factory targets are too big for my hands. I found a set of Herretts Shooting Star grips online that I am giving serious consideration to. If I understand their grips correct they have offered standard and custom sizes. That being
The case, can anyone advise if the N frame Shooting Stars are smaller than the factory N frame target grips?

Been a while since I held a set of Shooting Stars but as I recall they are a tad thinner without the flare at the bottom. So they do feel smaller than target stocks. Impossible to know how they feel until you hold them though.

Saxon is right! I've had several pairs on Ks and Ns and for me they were easier to use effectively over the factory targets, but I shoot a revolver almost exclusively double action.

Joe Kent, I had thought of that for sure but I thought I would give the ones I saw that are ready to go a try. Custom fit or not I'm not sure they are going to be the style of grip that works for me. I ended up buying the Herretts I found, so if the concept works and if I still need to I will get a set that are custom fit.

You might also want to look at Ahrends "Retro Target Grips" for your Model 58. They are slimmer than the standard targets.

I bought a pair of oiled cocabola grips for a Model 29, but they are a wee bit small for my hands.

I have Herrett target grips on my 28. They look, & feel great to ME!. I do feel they have a more compact feel than my factory targets. Bob

I have a set of slightly modified Shooting Stars on one of my 28's and I really like em. Good looks and good recoil management too.

Ahrend's Retro Combat's , made of dark reddish cocobola are on my model 58 and fit my hand perfectly. That's them on my avatar.
Thinking of some Retro Targets just because they look so awesome, only problem is selecting a wood....decisions, decisions, decisions......

I have these on my 58 and am very happy with them -- In fact I have them on most of my S&W's I shoot regularly -- great grips
