I am very new at all this and up until a month ago I had never been around a gun, never heard one fired.... Decided to get one for home defense with the economy the way it is and while we still had the right to. Hubby and I decided on the M&P.40 FS for several reasons, first it felt more comfortable to hold than any other gun, and second because I figured if I ever was in a life or death situation and had to use it, I wanted enough shots available that if the first 10 or so missed I still had more!

and finally Hubby wanted at least a .40 caliber.. We waited the mandatory 3 days and then brought it home with some snap caps. I spent 2 weeks reading the manual, loading, unloading the fake ammo, taking it apart and putting it back together before getting up enough nerve to actually go to the range and put live ammo in it... I was shaking when I loaded the real ammo in the magazines and was scared to death to pull the trigger and drop the gun not haveing any clue what to expect... Well I did close my eyes when I pulled the trigger out of reflex, but didn't drop the gun and it has been full steam ahead since! Went to class, filled out the paperwork and am now waiting for my ccw license to arrive. I love going to the range. I would have bet a million dollars against it if someone would have told me a few months ago I'd be shooting and "packn" a semi-automatic, waiting on my ccw and now going to purchase another one in compact size to carry "on or about my person"!
I stumbled across this forum while searching for information and have already found many great answers to my many questions.

A tip of the ol Stetson to you and your hubby for grabbin' the bull by the horns and takin' the responsibility of your own self defense.

welcome from Tenn. grandma. it's good to hear we have a new person thats interested in guns. if you can go practice once a week for 30 to 60 min. going for short periods of time is better than long periods, you don't get as tired. practice!practice!practice!

Thanks Hawkeye10! I am enjoying it and try to get to the range at least once a week. I have been shooting 50 rounds at a time, however last Thursday (Ladies Free at the Range) I used my new M&P .40 compact for the first time and put 100 rounds through it! I know I'm not only getting more accurate, I'm getting more stamina. A few weeks ago I could not have put 100 rounds through our M&P .40 FS, but had no problem last week with the compact that has much more of a kick. Thanks again for the words of encouragement!
