I have an example above that has a hitch in the initial double action pull of the trigger. I took the side plate off and I think I found the issue. I believe it is the double action surface catching. If I put the pawl to the rear and operate the trigger it goes away. I have included a pic. The two parts in the pic are where I've found the issue I believe. When they contact I get the hitch.
What step do I need to take to clean this up?
I'm not that familiar with working on double action revolvers.
Thanks in advance.

Can't tell anything from your photo. The part you call a pawl is the double-action sear. The problem you describe could be coming from it's contact point with the trigger, or it could be from the hand/ratchet interface or the cylinder stop.

Anything anyone could tell you would be a pure guess. My first suggestion is to tell us where you are and ask on the forum who can recommend a good gunsmith for S&Ws in your area.

DO NOT start trying to stone anything in the gun since by your own statements you are not qualified to diagnose the problem! All you will succeed in doing is damaging parts that will be difficult to replace!

What's the history of the gun? Did it just start having the "hitch" or did you get the gun that way?

Your photo is very clear. But we don't see any contact of the pawl (hand) and hammer sear.

You don't want to cycle the hammer and trigger too much with the side plate off because their mounting studs are not supported in the side plate when it's removed.

Can you have someone pull the trigger and hold it at the point we can see the hitch happening and take a photo of the two parts making contact? And circle that point in red.

A real through cleaning would not hurt and may even help.

A thorough cleaning is where I would suggest you start. If that does not correct the problem, get in touch with Andy Horvath and let him fix the problem correctly.

Agree with a thorough cleaning first.

And my first thought reading your thread title is that you needed a lawyer. ;)
