Been looking at the Hogue Extended Cylinder Release to put on a 686 6". Anyone tried this? If so is it worth $60? Also what length did you get-1.21" or .98"?

Also, please post any pixs!

Txs!

Tried one out on person next to me at range, did not notice any difference.

If you compete with some regularity it could be worth it - generally speaking, no.

Additionally, if you defensive carry revolvers, if you installed the Hogue release on one you would need to do them all as you don't want to find yourself pushing forward when you need to be pushing down or vice versa during an attempted reload.

The bigger principle is, if you can avoid it, don't mess with established muscle memory.

I've tried them, but don't see the value for my own use. Competition might be different.

Shot a lot of revolver PPC back in the day, and never felt the need to use one. I have tried them on others guns, and they work OK, but I really don't think any faster than a convention thumb latch if you practice. Maybe if you have short fingers?

I put a 'Revolver Supply' cylinder release, similar to the Hogue release , on my S&W 929. It seemed to smooth up my reloads a bit.
For competition , yes / maybe. For every day / regular use, no I wouldn't.

for competition it's definitely great. I run them on my 929 and 625. I can release the cylinder without changing my strong hand grip as I eject and reload with my weak hand. Saves a bit of time, but more importantly I am much more consistent coming back up for that first shot after a reload.
