There was another thread about cut frame grips that brought out very good information. This thread was mostly about K and N frame guns.

These 3 guns are J frames with grips by Hogue, Farrant and Hurst.
From left to right:
Model 60 with Farrant grips
Model 38 with Hogue grips
Model 640 with Hurst grips.
My observation of the Hurst grips might have been made for 22 caliber, the grips are rather large with thumb rest

I like them and love the Hogue's. Crazy thumb rest Farrant set. Can I join you with my M49 with Guy Hogue's and another lonely set that will be on a 36-1 come Tuesday.

OP:

How about a view from the back? Your Hogue's look like a cross of my two, in that they are not as rounded as those on my M49 but not as long as my other set.

I bought the Farrants from Ebay seller. He did not identify a manufacturer so the price was reasonable. You comment about model 34 crossed my mind, either that or the person who ordered them had paws not hands.

Toyman:

I like the Farrants but I really would like to see the backside view of the Hogue's. Like I told Patrick Hogue once about his dad's work, "grips come and go but Hogue's are forever". IMO of course.

All works of art, but the checkered Hurst are spectacular.

Yes they are. Here is another set that you may also appreciate...
I would love to permanently install these on one of my J-frames, but they are just so pretty I'm afraid of messing them up!

In the old days, when I shot PPC, Guy Hogue would make all of my grips, as well as many of my PD team mates. Guy would meet us in the Denny's in Moro Bay. He'd trace our hand outline on a napkin and we'd end up with a set of grips. Not sure any of them were sized any different than the next guys, but it made us feel like we were getting something special. (And we were). After I retired and went to work for S&W I got to be good friends with his sons, Aaron and Patrick. They took over the business after Guy retired and moved to Missouri. They made the majority of S&W's rubber grips and I would often go up to their place for a "final sign off" on products. It's too bad that Aaron was lost in a plane crash at the Reno Air Races a couple of years ago. I guess Patrick is pretty much in charge of things now. Both of them are, were pilots as am I and I used to fly my C-180 to their place in San Luis Obispo. Good folks.
