Today I bought some J frame round butt Hogue monogrips for my 640-1 Pro Series and they just did not fit. I have the monogrips on my 686 already and know how they are suppose to go on. They just stopped about an 1/8" too short to fit the right way and just would not go any further. Is the 640 just not the same fit or frame cut as the rest of the j frame round butts? Or was it possibly just the one pair of grips that did not fit right? I was just upset because I love my Hogue grips on my 686 and wanted that same feeling in my carry gun. Any ideas or has anyone else ran into this same problem? And do you have any other suggestions of better grips? I prefer the full size over the boot cut since I am a big guy and they do not impede me from concealment. Maybe there is a full size grip that conceals better than the factory S&W grips that come with the 640-1 Pro Series

Make sure the stirrup and pin are aligned in the channel correctly, it can tilt at the last bit. Also sometimes you have to give a little extra push at the end of sliding them on.

I just put the Tamer grips on my wifes 638. She likes them better than the monogrip.

I'm not sure from your text if you're talking rubber or wood, but I am really fond of these Hogue Rubber Tamer Monogrips for the Centennial frame:

They fit impeccably well, covering the entire backstrap of a centennial, and add enough room at the bottom for a pinky; 0.41" below the frame (about the same as Pachmayr Compacs.) The plastic buttcap also holds the rubber onto the frame. The above target was shot with those grips, from 7 yards, offhand.

I definitely tried a bunch of different times to fiddle with it and it just wouldn't bite. I would be so close and I even tried banging them on the table to get that extra 1/8" but it just wouldn't go. Do the Tamers for the centennial' fit other j frames? And any word of the Pach's?

maybe your screw is just a tad too short, pick another up at a hardware store?
