Hogue monogrip on M36

I just ordered a hard nylon Hogue monogrip for my Model 36. I find it very unpleasant to shoot with the Uncle Mike's boot grips that came with it. The monogrip seems like it will be a significant improvement in comfort without making concealment that much more difficult.

What has stopped me from installing the new grip is the realization that doing so requires that you drive out the small pin at the bottom of grip frame that helps align the grips when you use traditional two part grips. I am reasonably confident that I can get the pin out, but how hard is it going to be to get it back in if, down the road, I decide that the Hogue grip was not what I wanted?

I have considered trying to find traditional two-piece grips that are about the size of the Hogue monogrip. Any suggestions for a two-piece grip that is about that size?

Just for the record I was not sure which forum to put this one in. My 36 is not pinned, so I chose this one, but I guess it might be called a low tech gunsmithing issue also.

I avoid Hogue grips for the reason you cited.

Many also leave the backstrap a little exposed along the edge of the frame.

I prefer the old two-piece Pachmayr Presentation Compac grips.
I DO NOT recommend the present one-piece Pachmayr. I have trouble getting those on the gun and they often don't fit frames well.

My other solutions are the Uncle Mike's grip, the longer one, not the too small Boot Grip, or just use Magna service stocks and a Tyler adapter. Stocki wa m'zuri sana. My best attempt at Swahili, after seeing your board name.

I'm not familiar with the M36, but I just installed rubber Hogue Bantam grips on my M65-3 and there was no requirement to remove the pin. That pin actually secures the Bantam grips. I looked at the monogrip as well before I purchased and there was a small clip that came with the monogrip that fit over the pin which was used to secure the screw in the bottom of the grip. Maybe the M36 or nylon monogrips are different, but I wouldn't have thought so...

To install Hogue Monogrips on s K, L, or N-frame you're required to have that pin. It's what the "stirrup" device attaches to.

I've never put full size Monogrips on a J-frame. It must use a entirely different attachment method.

The current mfg grips don't require remival of the pin. I just put a set on a k frame.

Well, the ones that Midway is sending out for j-frames direct you remove the pin and put the stiruup thing around the bottom edge of the frame.

I'd be curious to see a photo of how the "stirrup thing" stays in place because my J-frame Monogrips use the pin to hold the stirrup on the grip handle.
