I am not a lawyer, and I have never played that role on television. I am not a doctor, but I have delivered several babies. Shall I start offering pre-natal check-ups to pregnant ladies now?

I am a retired cop. One of the first, and most lasting lessons that I learned, is that every person in the world knew my job better than I ever did.

Why are Americans so willing to accept pontification from actors, and so unwilling to accept wisdom when offered by folks who have actually walked the walk?

I'll just shut up and allow the actors to lead us now. Having read ever so many scripts, I'm sure that those good folks will have all the answers the rest of us will ever need in real life.

Best regards.

It's amazing how actors and singers (many of whom never finished high school) have the correct answers to everything. Manmade global warming, ocean currents, green energy, world hunger, commercial fishing, oil and gas exploration, what car you should drive, who to vote for, which political party has the answers, the list goes on and on.

The only actor that I ever placed any credence in his opinion was President Ronald Regan.

Yeah, because we should all worry about what some actors have to say.......these clowns never did anything in their lives for anyone but themselves, but when there's a "hot topic" they're sure to jump on the bandwagon.....will this guy turn down any roles in the future in movies and TV shows that depict gun violence? If he feels so strongly about it, then he shouldn't take roles in which he has to use a gun.......but no, he'll grab that money with both hands.....heck he'll probably appear in the made for TV movie about the Arizona shooting when it comes out......he can play the "creepy dad"......

He carries a Glock on his show - what does that make him?????

wyo-man

some great and accurate comment guys! ;)

So the guy that acted out a suicide in Full Metal Jacket, is now telling of the horrors of weapons ......

Who the heck is this guy? I've never even heard of him, but yet I'm supposed to view him as an authority on this subject because apparently he's an actor? Well, sure, makes perfect sense to me.
Hollywood thinks the public is so star-struck that we can be influenced by these people just because they act. That apparently makes them "Experts". I remember about 20 years ago Ted Danson was on a talk show and he made the grave pronouncement that the earth had less than 10 years to go before it was totally destroyed by environmental degradation. I believe it may have been on the Johnny Carson show. If a conservative had made a statement like that it would have been totally thrown in their face for years. I just ignore these people, I have a life.

Sigh... I remember reading that in ancient Roman society, actors were pretty much at the bottom of social hierarchy, even prostitutes were held in higher regard.
Ah, those Romans were truly ahead of their time.

Not to mention the track record of most actors, every day one of them is going back into rehab for the 23rd time, getting a DUI, making racial slurs, threatening or beating their wives, and get married like some of us go on dates........the average lifespan of a celebrity marriage is like 3 months.........but we're supposed to listen to their "holier than thou" viewpoints like they have any room to talk......instead of spouting off about high cap magazines, this Vincent Denofrio character should go visit some wounded service members at a VA hospital, or donate some of his millions to a fallen LEO fund, instead of going on TV and just running his mouth..........the only time this idiot touches a gun is when he plays a character in a movie, let him see the effects of people who were wounded and killed overseas who use "those evil assault rifles and hi cap magazines"everyday in combat overseas and on the streets of the US defending his ability to play a cop on TV.

There are some actors I respect, a few of them are NRA advocates like Tom Selleck, Ron Perlman and a few others......but the days are gone when actors actually did REAL stuff in their lives, like Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Jimmy Stewart, Ernest Borgnine...... all of whom were WWII veterans. Clint Eastwood served in the Army, even though he was not in combat, but at least he was in the service........not like these nancy boy manufactured actors who try to talk to us like we're peons....

I also love how all of them run to Darfur or Haiti, because that was the "cause of the moment" for celebrities, and Brangelina adopting 50 babies from India, Africa or wherever......do these people forget that we have lots of our own problems right here in the US? I didn't see all these "humanitarian" celebrities helping out during the BP oil spill.......there are thousands of homeless people, including Vietnam and other veterans living on the streets every day, but idiots like George Clooney run over to Africa to campaign for people who probably don't even care or know who the hell he is.......

Remember years ago, some actress testifying to Congress about something called Alar in apples that was going to kill us?
I think it was Glenn Close.

What hypocrites these actors who make millions killing tons of people, with guns in their shows then coming out against guns in a public forum.Of course most now cant act , so have to rely on the ulta-violence to entertain todays youth (of course they have no influence on anything bad) .Look at old movies mostly acting with a few shootouts today mostly shooting no acting. I dont know his political views but gotta love guys like Denzel Washington, actually writes a check for a vet treatment center or such and says nothing about it.Plus BAD A-- like in MAN on FIRE. I wouldnt watch a Cloney or this loser (except FMJ) movie if you paid me.

In every state of the union there are countless thousands of retired LEOs with 20 to 30+ years experience dealing with, among other things, firearms. Put a group of 5 of them together and you have over 100 years of combined experience. But who does the media pick to speak about gun control. An actor. I'm not upset about what this guy has to say. I couldn't care less about his opinion. What does upset me is the media. They have a very serious lack of objectivity. They have "dumbed down" this and other issues to the point of having (IMO) no credibility. I believe most people understand this and feel as we do. So let's say to the media stop with the fluff pieces and let's have a debate on the "real" issues with "real" people.

You are correct but there are also a massive amount of LEO that want guns banned. One of the former Presidents of the Police Chiefs Association was totally anti gun for civilian carry.

Not all LEO are pro gun. I think it has a lot to do with where they were raised and where they served. Most of the actors in CA were raised in the CA area and do not know the joy of target shooting or how a fine gun feels in the hands of an experienced shooter. Get an old country boy out of the south that was shooting before they were out of grade school and he will be pro gun.

Isn't a actor someone who reads a script and tries to convince other people that that they are someone else? Doesn't an actor say, and do, whatever they are told. Aren't actors really high-paid liars? Aren't they professional liars?
