Holy Cow!!! 55th high school reunion

I think my 50th is this year. They only communicate through Facebook. I don't do Facebook anymore; too stupid for my taste. That's the only way they know how to communicate. I will probably never go to another one. I went to 15th in 1990, and 25th in 2000. That was enough. All the good dudes I hung with are mostly dead or are in 12-step programs, meaning they can only walk 12 steps without coughing up a lung! It's only less than an hour drive over in Beaver County but Wife would have to drive us home.
Glad you had a good time, OP.

You people are OLD. My 55th was a few weeks ago! My 54th wedding anniversary is in a few weeks. To my knowledge, my class of about 30 people, did not celebrate. The WPA school that I went to burned, the small town withered away, all of the people went somewhere else to make a living and very few of us stayed or came back. I did come back, sort of, for the past 30 years I have been living near where I grew up. Only old people truly understand "change" and that nothing is permanent, except love. As I walk around my place, I find my self wondering what it will look like in 50 years, the only thing certain is that it will be different and nothing currently standing will be around. The only mark that I will have left is the Live Oak tree that I planted and is now doing very well, and some butthead may cut it down too!

Our 50th is coming up next year, the bicentennial class. I was home on leave for our 10th and none of the guys I hung out with in school attended. So had dinner listened to all the speeches and went home. The 25th was pretty much the same but they held it at some fancy resort so only the country club folks could afford to stay there for the full weekend.

No details yet for the 50th but I anticipate pretty much the same and the old gang will not be attending.

Back in 69 I recall filling my clunker 65 Mustang for around $6. probably .30 cents a gallon. Smokin Marlboro's for around .35 cents a pack! Man can't believe more than a century has passed! Found after school work and bought my first 10/22 Ruger. Slightly used for $45. Only thing I got left from those days is that Puma Skinner knife made in 66 according to Nos. on hilt or guard. Believe it cost me around $27 with tax!!

Changes are very sobering. Know I look different but some of us have not changed that much. The " beached whales" girls are just about impossible to believe. I always remember them in 1970. Several things I learned can not discuss as just to sad……

I have been to all my class reunions, 60th coming up, in a couple of years. Mainly, I go back to reconnect with old friends and others like me, who moved away at 18. What's funny is, at the last two reunions, while parking the car, I see all these old people walking in and wondered, do they had another group there.
Turns out all the old farts there were myself and my classmates. Funny how I never aged and they all did. lol
(only in my mind)

I understand how some of you enjoy seeing old friends at reunions. I also understand why some folks don't. Me, I have a forward-looking view, so there's little interest in going back. All that stuff is behind me. High school was just fine. I did kid things with my friends, but we've moved on. I'm more interested in how far the wind is going to blow my bullets around at 500 yards tomorrow morning. Tomorrow afternoon, it won't be interesting, but next Wednesday will.

Ocean view isn't what it used to be and neither is little creek. Va beach encroached right up to the bridge.

I spent every childhood summer I can remember on 20th Bay Street. That house and all of the houses are long gone replaced with mcmansions.

This is the 80s but I miss it all the same.

I sure hope I'm fortunate enough to enjoy my 55th reunion and beyond.
Dated a girl from Ocean View back in 60s, lasted a few years and heard she became a veterinarian, may have should of stayed with her, lol. Last time there could not recognize anything. Ocean View died when the " Rocket " was torn down. Not many know about the " Rocket"………

I attended 3 different high schools, 3 different junior high schools and 2 different grade schools. My high school graduating class was over 600. I don't have many that remembered me and most of them have passed. I joined the Army within days of graduating and was mostly away from the area. The last reunion that I attended wasn't what I'd call fun. The people who were still alive and were popular in high school still gathered in little clicks. I do get together, around once a month, with some mostly childhood friends that I've known since I was six. We usually have 8-12 of us guys gather for lunch. Most are conservative and have some common interests. I enjoy that. The best thing I got from high school is my wife. She is one year younger and has stuck with me in good times and bad. Who says that marrying young isn't a good thing?

Will be 50 years next year. Not really interested in going to any reunion, never went to any of the previous ones and not likely to attend another one. I have a few friends I've stayed in touch with over the years, also found a few online that I had lost touch with and was glad to hear from. Other than those few I don't much care or have any desire to deal with the rest of them.

Shore drive just off Northampton head to Va Beach. The first light you hit is Greenwell Road Named after my grandfather who died in 1946, four years before I was born, November 22 1950. We moved to Hampton right at the time when Hurricane Hazel hit and lived across the street where we lived when I was born. The street named after my Father's Father who was a State Trooper in Va during prohibition.

Pop had 4 older sisters two lived to 109 and 102. The richest died at 84 and the head anesthesiologist at DePaul hospital, where I was born lived to 87. He lived to 103 and died Nov 16th 2024, 6 days before my 74th birthday. Pop grew up in the family home on D view avenue.

I rode the rocket. Moved to Hampton used to drive to the beach in my Austin Healy Sprite to buy a Barbeque sub at ZERO's. Parked my surf board in the passengers seat and stayed at my rich Aunts beach house on the ocean at 59th street. She let me stay in the bedroom above the garage. She married into the Hofheimer (shoes) family and lived the rich life. I detailed cars for money at that time.

Small world.

Class of 68, I was 17 when I graduated and turned 18 at Va Tech dropped out went to work and never looked back.
Not too shabby for a couple of old farts. She is Hampton high class of 64, this photo is 3 years old.
WE were next door neighbors when we were young. She is 4 years 10 months older than I am and she does not dye her hair. She turns 80 in January. She looked like Annette Funicello's sister all her life and everyone remembers her.

Just had my 45th. Went to Willoughby South. They had a walk through of the school. It is now the Middle School. They built a new High School a few years ago that is attached to the old one. The walk through brought back some nice memories! The reunion was nice. There were three guys I played football with. I was hoping to see more. They had a list of people that passed away from our class. That was kinda sad. We had a lot of pretty girls in our class. Now they are pretty Ladies. All in all had a wonderful time.

Granby High School, dated a couple girls that went there and had several buddies. The fun we had water sking in the river full of jelly fish, lol.

Next year will be my 55th. I truly hope I am able to attend.

The last one I made it to everyone there, including myself, received a much needed dose of humility as we all realized that we had hit quite a few potholes since graduating and needed realignment.

I never really cared about going to my class reunions. The wife went to many of hers including the 60th in 2024. That is where the picture was taken. She is within a few pounds of her weight at graduation. Exercises every weekday at the Y while I play pickleball.

I graduated from Riverside High School in Painesville Township. I'm going back next month for my 55th reunion.
