I'm looking for an inexpensive home defense semi auto shotgun. Not interested in a pump. I found a Lion X6 which is manufactured in Turkey. Nice looking gun and the reviews seem to be good. I've never heard of them. Anyone know anything about these or have any experience or opinions? And yes, I know what opinions are like.

For home defense, one of the Turk SAs should work fine, but I would want to test it enough to ensure it was reliable. Several years ago I did some performance testing on a Turk semi-auto a friend bought (I don't remember the brand) and I found nothing wrong with it. Or you might look for a used Remington 1100 or 11-48.

I was wanting a semi auto hunting shotgun and researched it quite a bit and most advice was to stay with the more expensive and more proven designs like the Remington 1100/1187, Weatherby, or Mossberg. You can buy a Remington 1187 at Walmart for $469 and cut the barrel off to 18" and I like a 20 gauge for home defense because it's light enough to hold with one hand and open doors and has less recoil and blast.

Does not matter as much as most people think.
Even a single-shot with a couple of extra rounds attached to the buttstock somehow is much better than nothing.
I WOULD recommend a 20 gauge over a 12.

It has enough ( with the right loads ) power and payload to deal with any threat at across the room distances.
A 20 is much more pleasant than a 12 to shoot, which encourages practice and familiarity. Less muzzle blast and recoil.

A used Remington 870 would do nicely and its American made ..

I would rather have a pump then an auto just my preference ..

What ever you get buy and shoot the ammo you intend to use in the shot gun in the self defense mode to insure 100% reliability //

If semi auto is an obligation go on a Remington 1100 or 1187 but you’ll need of instal the Dave métal works kit to have easy reload.
Thàt’s why I also recommand A Mossberg 930. Easy and reliable. I used a 930 Miculek in competition and I loved it.
Are you sure you don’t whant a pump action?
You can’t have any incident if you use quality shotshell, and you find a lot and a lot of shotgun for less than 400$ combat ready.
870, mossberg 500,590, winchester defender....

the Mossberg 930. I added a tube on mine and use reduced recoil federal 00 buckshot. shoots very easily even a slightly built person can handle it. of course at distances inside my home and most homes I've been in the shot pattern will still be very tight. mine holds to 5" or less at 15 yards. a low cost burris red dot and its good to go.

I mean no disrespect, but if you are buying a shotgun for defense of life and limb you should step to the line and buy quality rather than price. If the cost of a quality auto loader is too much then buy a quality pump and practice. Myself I use Remington Model 11/87 Police and Benelli auto loaders and Rem 870, Mossberg and Ithaca Model 37 pump guns.

A Turkish automatic wouldn't be my choice either. I know you don't want a pump, but I'd feel a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 would be far more reliable. I have 870 as my house gun but have thought about replacing it with my Remington 11/87 turkey gun for home use.

I have 3 shotguns placed in strategic places around the house for self defense. I completely trust all 3.one is a Benelli m1s90,next is a Remington 870 and the last is a linberta 01stac that I paid 399.00 new ; that I have shot enough to fully trust it.Don't under estimate a Turkish shotgun because of where it was made.and at that price, if it got beat up or rained on or whatever, who cares?

V 3 Tac 13, NOT inexpensive, perfect for home defense. Just got one.

Guys.
I carried a 1187 police and still have a 1100 custom.
Without a lot of practice or with a modification the reload of those shotguns are slow AND complicate.
Even if a Mossberg is less stofisticated, it’s more easy to use and reload when you are not fully trained.
Another point very important is the ammos.
For home defense (if their is more persons than you in the house) I’m radically against slugs, specially steel balls....
Not really for bucks, specially linked....
My shotgun is full of 34 gr with 3.75. Very big stoping power, small dispertion (20 cm at 15 mètres with a LM shock) and can’t go thrue a wall After a rebound.
