What would you use? What would be the best thing to spray on a soft cloth and keep handy to wipe down an EDC on a semi-daily basis? I carry both blue and SS guns.

This wouldn't be for cleaning a gun that has been fired. Just one that's been carried.

I use an old t shirt with a few drops of balistol or a light oil such as sewing machine oil for edc daily wipe down.

Nothing fancy. Just removing the oil from my daily handling the edc gun and anything that ends up on the gun at the end of the day.

Most gun oils work just fine, but they are very expensive compared to machine oils that work well too, i just use what I have on hand. No need to use stuff marketed to the shooting community. Those products, such as CLP, are much more expensive than sewing machine oil and offer no benefit for daily wipe down.

At what point does an oily rag become a fire hazard ?
curious wondering … lol

The rags I use don't get "oily": I use only a few (3 or 4) drops. That's all it takes. I usually stick it in a baggie to keep it from acquiring abrasive stuff from whatever it may touch if it's loose. I don't add oil to the rag every time I use it.

If you're using an "oily" rag, one that feels oily to the touch, you're using much more oil than necessary.

Soft rag/old t-shirt with a spritz of G96. Used it for 26+ years on my duty weapons and daily backup guns that were exposed to all the elements and lots of perspiration. Never had any issues with rust.

Commercial silicone cloth for wipe down. If shot, gets a general cleaning with solvent, break free, then wiped down with silicone cloth before going back in the vault.

I have an old T-shirt that has turned brown from the very many times I used it to wipe down guns. That's what I'd use. I don't wipe down my carry guns daily, I don't see the need, but if I did that's my choice of wipe rag!

An M-16 cleaning brush is equally useful.
Cut it in half and put both halves in the bag with the rag.

I have an old piece of a t-shirt sleeve that is pretty oiled with Rem Oil that I wipe my gun down each time I take it out of its holster and then put the gun on my night stand.

For my EDC, if it hasn't been shot, I typically do a cleaning with Ballistol every 1-2 weeks.

As I can't imagine the smell of old Ballistol in a confined space, I keep a microfiber cloth saturated with RemOil for use when I travel away from home to visit kids/grandkids in far-off lands.

Always use that Remington green cloth treated with Rem-Oil. Looks like a wash cloth. lately tough to find so just spray extra oil on it. Good for knives too.

There's plenty of good products on the market. I've been using G-96 for decades and have never had any problems with surface rust during long term storage. I give the firearm a light spray and wipe it down with an old T-shirt. I'll spray the rag too and leave it in a zip-lock baggie for later use. A large spray can of G-96 will last many years. It won't discolor wood, or bluing, and it smells great, too!

I buy 100% cotton Flannel by the yard at a fabric store and cut it into 10" x 18" pieces. I like white the best as you can see exactly how dirty it is. When it gets wonky - toss it and oil up a new one. I apply a liberal amount of Breakfree CLP to it and store it in a heavy zip lock bag that goes into my Range bag. I also keep one in an old cookie tin in my workshop soaked with the CLP as well for use on tools, shop equipment, etc. I just recently found an old can of my G96 and that would work well also.

If you do buy the G96 or Breakfree CLP I would suggest getting the bottle and not the aerosol cans. By doing this your cost per ounce goes down and the big plus is you don't have to breath it in as much. It's the same product minus the propellant. :)
