The 10 o'clock news has just informed us that Rick Perry shot a coyote that was going for his dog. It seems, according to the TV, the governor carries a Ruger LCP, loaded with evil hollow points.

Be interesting to see if this turns into some sort of media storm. Normally, no one in Texas would care (except to think he might not be carrying enough gun), but this is an election year.

Can't wait to see how this plays out...

Perry owning a Ruger is one more reason the people of Texas should have voted for Medina.

That's funny!

She carries a Springfield XD in her car and has no CCW per her interview.

"He became mulch," Perry said.

Nice......I do love Texas :D

So does this mean we have to re open the discussion regarding the .380 and it's merits ?

Rick Perry is probably the only governor who goes armed, and he is a shrewd, articulate orator. I hope that he wins a third term.

BTW, I understand that he's signed a bill that keeps cops from calling any one-handed opening folding knife a gravity knife. That's a big step in the right direction.

If you read the article, that looks like another Ruger in his hand, although I'm sure that he can afford a real Colt.

Yes, Gov. Perry does have a CCW permit.

He says he carries that .380 for snakes if he comes across one while hiking/jogging. A .380 with hollowpoint ammunition wouldn't be high on my list of choice for snakes but seems to have done the deed nicely on that scumbag coyote.

And Rick has such nice hair! As leftist and touchy-feely as Travis County is, he'll catch some flack there, but elsewhere, this will be nothing but good. My son lives fairly close to where this happened, and is right next to a "greenbelt" where coyotes roam. He always carries when he's out with his little dog, too, in part for the same reason.

One of my CHL students commented, "A lesson to the libs: We don't write reports, we just shoot what annoys us."

As for Debra Medina, I originally was a fan, until I found out she is a "9/11 Truther," and has given some interviews wherein she comes off as a nut, and not a particularly bright one. During one debate, she also demonstrated that she doesn't know much about CHL law, either.

You don't mess with a man's Labrador Retriever; good for the Governor!

Illegal immigrant coyotes are gathering at the Texas capital building protesting the wanton murder of this innocent coyote by the Texas gun nut governor. They were smearing Alpo on the windows and deficating on the capital stairs!

Hmmmmm . . . . . . Texas coyotes must not be nearly as tough as Ga 'yotes, or dogs either for that matter. I snapped a shot at a running coyote with a .45 Colt carbine a few years back. He hunched up, but kept running into a thick area. I figured I had just nicked him. Two days later, he showed up dead in a neighbor's field. I had shot him right through the gut with a 255 grain swc at 1000 fps. You would figure that would put him down, even though it didn't hit a bone. I had a coyote sized German Shepherd shot through the flank with a .30-30 rifle. It hit no bones, but knocked a fist-sized chunk of meat out of him. I gave him a couple of penicillin shots and sprayed it with antibiotic spray we used when castrating pigs. He lived another four or five years. I have seen 'yotes and dogs well-hit with .22lr and .22 mags just run away.

I don't doubt the Guv'nor's story, but it is surprising that one shot from a little .380 pocket pistol put down the 'yote. Probably the reason he just shot once was that the Ruger stove-piped after the first shot.

This is an entertaining thread....an example of gun forums at their best.

Perry's a lot of hat and not many cattle, but I guess he'll have to do for now.

Now, Jerry Patterson, TX Land Commissioner is the real deal. (in spite of his technique!)

Rick probably got his CCW for protection against crims, too, but it wouldn't play well in the media to say that he might shoot a human.

I really wish that he hadn't brandished the larger gun while clowning, but politicos treat guns with amusement or horror.
They really don't live in the real world, like many other celebs. And most have enormous egos.

i was wondering, if maybe he had a tarus. "JUDGE", the .410 shot pistol, would make a lot more sense shooting snakes, than a .380..i couldnt shoot a snake or a coyote running with a .380. maybe the press made a mistake??

Was the coyote legal or illegal? 2 legs or 4? Either way. totally justified. But he really should get a larger caliber. -Ed.

I complain that Perry is not conservative enough and does not push things far enough, but at the end of the day.

One shot, one coyote gone.

Can't complain much, so I will vote for him again.

Just wish it was an S&W Model 27 revolver instead!

Is he the guy who has come out against the AZ immigration law and said it would not be the right direction for Texas?

Unfortunately yes.

I am going to call and write him and tell him he is wrong and that to me that stance is a deal breaker on voting for him. We will see if it matters in the long run.

You mean you would prefer that the Gov of Arizona decides what is appropriate legislation for Texas? Funny, I like for my Governor to make his decisions based on what is good for Georgia rather than waiting around to see what the Gov of Alabama or SC thinks.

A Tale of Two States:

A Governor of a state is jogging with his
dog along a trail. A coyote jumps out and starts to attack dog.

In California:
#1. Governor starts to intervene and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is doing what is natural.
#2. Call animal control. Animal control captures coyote and spends $200 testing it for diseases and $500 relocating it.
#3. Call Vet. Veterinarian collects dead dog and spends $200 testing it for diseases.
#4. Governor goes to hospital and spends $3500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and getting bite wound bandaged.
#5. Running trail gets shut down for 6 months while wildlife services conduct a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is clear of dangerous animals.
#6. Governor spends $50,000 and starts a coyote awareness program for people who live in the area.
#7. State legislature spends $2 million investigating how to better handle rabies and how to possibly eradicate it.
#8. Governor's security agent fired for not stopping the attack and letting the Governor try to intervene.
#9. Cost $75,000 to train new security agent.
#10. PETA protest the relocation of the coyote.

In Texas:
#1. Governor spends $1.23 on a .380 ACP Gold Dot Hollow Point and he and the dog keep jogging.
And we wonder why California is Broke?

From what I've been reading it seems that Governor Rick Perry is one of the few - who are in Texas legally - who think it's a bad idea. He said that it would make TX LEO immigration cops instead of TX Cops. If *The Press* is to be believed -- It would seem that Perry doesn't see being in TX illegally to be an actual crime and the cops should be focusing on actual crimes...

I was taught that if you are doing something illegal then you are committing a crime. I guess my parents were a bit too conservative.
If some illegal stuff is NOT a crime - *They* should publish a list of the illegal acts/things that are actually OK.
