I see on the National Weather Service report from Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley, (elevation 80 ft.) that after peaking at 126 degrees at 4:55 PM, hovering there for ten minutes, the temp dropped back down to 124... 118 here yesterday, only 114 today...

I was in Vegas a few years back, and made it through a week of low triple digit temps. 108* was the highest it got, and it took some adjusting to. 120s? I'm not so sure.

I thought it hit....

I thought it hit 27 degrees F. Just a few degrees below a record that has been in place about 100 years.

It is supposed to get hot in summer. It seems to happen every year. You sort of expect deserts to be hotter than other places.

We have friends that moved to Sun City last year. This is the first full summer for them. We need to cal them and see how well they are doing in this heat. It's a balmy 70 degrees here in IL this morning.

Stae legislature takes action

Its been so hot here that the state legislature enacted a law raising the temperature of freezing to 90 degrees. That way it won't take all that much for folks to complain about the cold!

For the last couple of days it's been a little cooler here. I went out around noon to shoot at the Rod & Gun Club (covered range). It was quite comfortable, around 85º outside. Shot a bunch out of a couple of 45s.

it was 40 centigrade here (about 104) drywalling the top floor of our reno it must have been 50! mud was drying as we laid it down. tough to keep a wet edge painting too!

It will be nice again - during the next Ice Age

Death Valley will be nice again - during the next Ice Age.

Back during the last Ice Age, Death Valley had a nice lake and a forest of trees. Naturally lots of animals.
To get a look at the animals of the Ice Age period one must look at the La Brea Tar Pits Museum.

Unfortunately these museum people usually picture the scenery wrong. Notice the opening scene has typical dry brush brown colored hills typical of modern Los Angeles. Any Mastodon (elephant cousin) would starve to death on that. They need to wrap their trunks around tall green grass in order to feed.
(So how did Native Americans survive saber tooth cats and dire wolves? Bone digs show that Native Americans were here 14,000 years ago).

Death Valley National Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
About 2 thirds of the way down, just before the heading "Biology", it says:

The large lake that covered much of Death Valley's floor, which geologists call Lake Manly, started to dry up 10,500 years ago. Saltpans and playas were created as ice age glaciers retreated, thus drastically reducing the lakes' water source. Only faint shorelines are left.

Come on up to maine where we have humidity :-D 95 = 130 :-D haha Only place north of the belt where it can be 80* with a breeze and you will still sweat like a pig sitting in a chair doing nothing lol
