How about a new model 40 AIRWEIGHT? AKA Model 42.

If they hadnt brought out the No lock 442s, I probably would have bought one of the new 42s.....But I bought 5 of the 442s for about $385 each.... Way better that the probable $600+ price tag on the new "classic" model 42.
I think S&W shot themselves in the foot on this one.

I think the 442 is a better idea for the reasons I have said before - the grip safety never worked well for me as I could never be sure it was fully depressed, and so most of my friends used to just pin them shut. The 642/442 are better since you don't have to put up with that non-sense.

It is alwasy amazing to me how many people will buy a certain this or that and then when S&W grants the request and builds them, everyone has an excuse. I am not talking about you since you obviously put your money where your mouth is a bought 5 Model 442s! Good show!
