How about a S&W M&P 10mm?

I'm in!!! Money is ready. Come on S&W, please. I would love to rotate a M&P 10mm with my 629 for outdoor ventures on my hunting property.

:)Had a Delta Elite 10 when they first came out and factory loads were hot. A handful but manageable. Traded it to a nationally known smith for work on another Colt.

Bought a G20 years later, because I could. Just started shooting it again. Frankly it doesn't do anything a G21 can't do. If I were in Pacific NW or Alaska Brown Bear territory it, with proper loads, might make sense. Otherwise, make me an offer :).

The most useful 10mm I ever fired, and would love to own ( but won't happen) was an FBI HK MP5 that they issued for a while in their 10mm phase. Great shooter and could handle a hot 10mm load semi or with the "fun switch" engaged.

YMMV

Hows bout shooting 45 super. That's as close to 10mm as your going to find. The M&P pistols I own seem very stout (m&p 9c + m&p 357 sig) anyone own an m&p 45 care to chime in on the chamber support it offers?

The thing about the 45 Super is it does not shoot as flat and certainly not out to a distance like the 10mm can do. Again, the way I view the 10 is it's like a high capacity 357 magnum semi auto. 357 is still one of the most versatile calibers on the market and there's little debate about its ability to stop an assailant. The 10mm deserves more respect imo.

M&P 10mm Pro C.O.R.E. Hunter

I own 3rd Gen 1006 & 1076 which I will never sell. These are two of my favorite guns and by far my the 10mm is my favorite cartridge. I even have an Olympic Arms 10mm AR that I shoot in pistol caliber carbine competitions.

I have recently become a big fan of the M&Ps. I have 2 M&P Pro 40s that each have Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrels. One of the Pros is a C.O.R.E. model which I love and shoot constantly in area competition. I also have an M&P 45 and a 9mm Shield as well. I enjoy accessorizing these guns with lasers and reflex sights. They are all a joy to shoot. They are very accurate and reliable.

I must say that I was never a big Glock fan. I owned a G34 and a G35 and never fell in love with them. I don't like the ergonomics of their guns and I despise the "pig nose" that their frames all seem to have - even the 4th generation guns.

With that said, I now have a sudden renewed interest in Glocks. Three reasons... G40, MOW, 6" Barrel.

I hoped that S&W would come out with an M&P 10mm Pro C.O.R.E. Hunter. If so, I would be first on the waiting list for this gun. I think there are many guys like myself that would also jump on the bandwagon.

Some friends have questioned my affection for the 10mm cartridge. Saying it is a dead round. It is too expensive to shoot and it is too powerful. Hogwash! There are a handful of ammo manufacturers that are making decent cartridges for not much more than a box of 45 ACP ammo. And I personally have been reloading 10mm since the 90s and have had excellent results for around $9 per box of 50.

10mm has been an obsession for me. I like the 10mm 1911's from Kimber, CZ, Colt, and even the Armscor / Rock Island Armory guns. I also think the STI Perfect 10 6" would be a great addition to my collection, but not at $2,600. The Para Hunter 6" would be another addition if I can get one in all stainless.

The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger and purchasing any of these models is the hope that S&W will wake up as the competition has done. 10mm is far from dead yet. Just ask Glock, Kimber, Tanfoglio, Armscor, STI, Dan Wesson, Colt, Wilson, Guncrafter, Nighthawk, and an obscure company called VLTOR who was trying to reintroduce the Bren Ten.

Please just stop wasting time with porting the M&Ps and calling them custom shop models. Focus on new stuff please. I have already bought the rest of your product line!

S&W is humiliating me!

I've been looking for a long slide 10 that fits my short stubby fingers for a while now. Had Para Hunter on back order with my local pusher for a year now.
Last week he shows me an ad for that Austrian G40 that's built on their new slimmer Gen4 frame. For almost half the price!

Dang it Smith, you've had years of hearing us whine about wanting a M&P in 10mm…and nothing! Your insolence towards us is now gonna make me do the unthinkable. I'm gonna be a (GASP) Glock owner.
AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!

Oh the shame. After decades of harassing and teasing the "perfection" faithful that I shoot with…I guess karma is a bitch.

Jeff

PS I'll just have to console myself with finally having the 10mm I've always wanted. Even if it is made by a company I despise. Guess I'll have to buy an Audi next.

A glimmer of hope for 10mm fans was the recent Shot Show appearance of a 10mm P220 production pistol. These should be nice running guns as they consulted with Sig guru/gunsmith Bruce Gray to borrow from what he learned doing his 10mm conversion pistols, which did take a fair bit of tinkering by Gray to get them working satisfactorily. Should be interesting to follow this story for more details. As some may recall, this Sig pistol was really designed first as a 9mm and later reconfigured to accommodate the 45ACP. Gray had ammo power restrictions on his conversion guns, and while I'm sure it's been thoroughly tested for factory ammo, I would be curious to know what they did to beef up the pistol. Also curious to know why it only hold 8 rounds (like the 45ACP), given the 10mm's smaller size.

Not at lot of details beyond the Shot Show press release news, but I'll link an article from G&A that has a video of the gun in action.

SIG Sauer's New 10mm P220 Pistols & Ammo | Guns & Ammo

The other interesting thing announced, was that Sig is also going to market ammo as well. To start, they are offering two 180gr rounds in FMJ and JHP flavors. No specs that I could turn up, but I would be surprised if they were hotter Norma style loads. If priced well, I'm hoping this helps boost reported ammo sales numbers for the round; which as Fastbolt keenly observed, is what manufacturers like S&W look towards to guide their marketing decision. I'm not actually interested in owning this gun for myself, but it does give some small measure of hope that S&W might release an M&P in 10mm.

If it was offered in the full size, it would be on my must have list as my next purchase. It could never be a compact or sub compact, it would snap your wrist.

So wondering why a M&P in 10mm will "snap your wrist" when my Glock 29 in 10mm has caused me no injuries... or anyone else that has fired it. I believe a M&P compact in 10mm would be a great CCW / backup piece.

Comments about "snapping your wrist" are often made by people without much trigger time running a G29. If loaded hot, the 10mm is just a stouter 40S&W, with the unique twisting recoil characteristic of that round kicked up a notch. People often complain about the 40 S&W being hard to shoot well, so no it's no surprise the 10mm gets its share of urban legend recoil comments. That is not to say it there is no noticeable increase in recoil when touching off a hotter load, but I do think such comments often overstate the amount of recoil actually felt.

The polymer frames do help absorb recoil by flexing a bit, but the physics of recoil does become harder to overcome as the firearm size is reduced. There is definitely a point of diminishing returns with regard to pocket rocket guns. The subcompact 40S&W G27 is (IMO) too much recoil for amount of grip leverage you have on it. I sold my G27 because it was too hard to drive fast. I think an M&P 45 compact size, which is darn close to G19 in size, might make the 'just right' 10mm M&P for a CCW, but I also suspect a full size or long slide variant would likely get the nod first for a greater number of shooters.

Two more recent announcements of new 10mm guns coming to market.

The G40. An optics ready long slide 10mm from Glock.

The Silverback. Dan Wesson's new 1911 chambered in 10mm and priced just north of $2k.

Meanwhile Smith & Wesson rolls out their latest M&P variant: a swiss cheesed, optics ready Performance Center M&P (9mm and 40S&W/4.5" and 5") that I suspect most here would have little to no interest in.

With three different major firearms manufacturers (Sig, Glock and Dan Wesson) offering new 10mm models, it would appear that S&W didn't get the 10mm memo.
