How are Sellier & Bellot Primers?

Got nothing to do with the S&B primers and everything to do with the S&B and Herter's brass, both of which have small primer pockets.

Don

Yes and I thought that was interesting considering the S&B brass came with S&B primers in the first place. I usually use Remington 1 1/2 in S&B and Herter's. They fit better.

They are on sale at Cabelas for $21.24

I just bought a thousand this morning at the Lehi, UT Cabelas and they were $24.95! I guess your store has a sale on that isn't company wide.

I loaded a few tonight for testing at a future date, so I cannot remark on how they work, but I have noticed a couple of details that I find useful/helpful!

First, the anvil does not stand above the cup edge, when you feel the primer bottom in the pocket it is below flush and isn't going any farther!

Second, the junction of the sidewall and face of the primer is nearly sharp-edged. I use the old Lee hand primer, you know the one that constantly allows primers to turn on edge? In seating 200 of the S&B SP primers in 9mm and .38 Spl. cases I did not have a single stoppage as with all other brands I have used in this tool.

The above noted remark credited to John Barsness about S&B primer accuracy for benchrest is definitely encouraging!

I bought some SB large rifle primers. They load and shoot just fine in 30.06 and .32 Winchester Special.

I always buy a few thousand at a time. I have better luck with them, than any other brand I have used.

Got a hundred M a few months back.. Price was a good bit under 20 bucks and they work just fine in everything. I still load CCI in top of the chart magnums

If the sale price is at Cabelas online, you can have the cashier price match.

Likewise I picked up 1000 SPP at Cabelas last weekend. Loaded up 100 rounds, all went boom in my S&W 929 which only likes Federals. Went back to Cabelas and picked up another 5000

I've had a little bad luck with them and 2 shooting buddies have as well. We bought them (SP) on sale at Cabelas a few months ago so maybe we just got a bad batch but:
a) I've had several FTFs with my Sig P229. Good looking strikes and did go off the second time.
b) One friend has had frequent FTFs with his S&W 929
c) Another has had FTFs with his Sig P226

They seat nicely in all of my 9mm cases but won't seat in CBC or Herters .40 cases and round out too badly to be reused when I deprime them.

I'm using my remaining stock for my 9mm striker guns and don't think that I'll use them again unless CCI and Federals get really expensive.

Sellier & Bellot primers

Last the week the World's Foremost Outfitter Cabela's
had primers on sale. I was running low on Large Pistol
primers so I thought I would buy CCI LP, which I have
used since I started reloading as a kid.

No CCI LP, now what? I had been thinking about trying
S&B and studying reviews. The reviews were good.
At $20.18 a brick I thought why not.

When I got home I reloaded the S&B LP in 20 of my 44 Specials.
I noticed the S&B primers had a more squared cup then the CCI.
The S&B fit was snugger.
All fired when the trigger was pulled.

I would recommend S&B
