How can it be?

None of the meds are perfect. If you take one and still have suicidal thoughts, you should tell your doctor.

Why do you care? Do you have a suicidal person in your family?

When some people are severely depressed, they don't have enough energy to kill themselves. The most dangerous time for them is when they start to emerge from their depression, with or without the aid of anti-depressants. Then they may develop the energy to act on their negative feelings. They should be closely monitored during this time.

The best anti-suicide advice I've ever heard I learned in a college English class where we studied the writer Lord Byron. Byron lived a very full life, but he was subject to fits of depression. However, he never considered suicide because he was afraid he might "miss something", and given his extraordinary life, he didn't miss much. And that's the benefit of staying alive.

How 5% of people respond to a drug may well be different than how the other 95% respond to it. Just because 5% have poor responses doesn't mean the 95% who have positive responses shouldn't have it. My sister died after receiving a liver transplant, so by some peoples logic no one should have a liver transplant despite the fact the majority have good lives after receiving one.

There has never been a legitimate study showing anti-depression drugs work any better than placebos and talk therapy.

They are ALL fraudulent...

"Numerous large meta-analyses, notably one in The Lancet (2018), show that commonly used antidepressants are statistically more effective than placebos for short-term treatment of moderate to severe major depression, with all 21 studied drugs outperforming placebos in reducing symptoms."

FWIW, a lecture I attended years ago stated that, if you were concerned that someone you knew was thinking about committing suicide to just ask them discretely but directly.

The thinking behind this approach was/is, if the person wants help but can't for some reason ask then they are more apt to admit it and open up. While those how don't want help or can't recognize their plight will stay silent or deny....

The sad truth is suicide it seems more times than not creates more problems than it solves... jmo 🙏

A meta-analysis is NOT a double-blind study. It is a statistical exercise that, like all statistics, can be manipulated to achieve any result desired. Remember... there are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

The typical commercial lineup goes something like this: First, a commercial for a depression drug with the side effect of involuntary movement. Next up the commercial for a drug that treats involuntary movement with a side effect of depression. And round and round it goes.

So, can you link us to some double-blind studies that indicate the anti-depressants are no better than placebos?

Just watch the commercials for all meds. They scratch the surface of what the negative side effect are. You will end up taking a second medication to combat the negative effects of the first and so on. I am starting to lean more toward the natural remedies and eating better. More meat, less vegetables and grains. Just sayin.

Every time one of those commercials come on I asked my wife the same thing why would I put something in my body if it's going to make me want to kill myself?

How do you know if it's the power of suggestion or an actual side effect? I mean, if I tell you this pill is going to make you want to kill yourself you're going to think about killing yourself after you take that pill.

Hard to do a double blind study of a mental condition. Physical studies on things like cancer are much easier.. Is he dead or isn't he, is the tumor larger or smaller, more of them or less. Where with derpression is he depressed or isn't he is subjective
