Interesting you should say this. It was just yesterday that this article written a decade ago was pointed out to me. Ten years after it was written, it seems prophetic, and may well be a glimpse of the future.
According to the seven phase plan outlined in the article, we are on the brink of a period of, "total confrontation" with radical Islam.

I ran this through my head several times, I think it was SWAT snipers who took these guys out and not the lone traffic cop with a Glock. Nothing against Glocks, I own a XDM but they are not the most accurate handgun made and this guy took one to the leg. I would imagine that the PD wants to keep the other snipers out of the reports and leave it as one defenseless Glock carrying traffic policeman taking out 2 bad peps.
Especially with AK 47s if they fired any shots which they evidently did then he did not take them out with a .45 caliber Glock. No way no how, regardless if he is the IPSC super champion of the world.

Last story I saw stated that the terrorists got out of the car one at a
time. The officer shot the first out and he went down. The second got out then and got the same treatment.
Department spokesman said something like, "He did what he was trained to do and did a good job."
Story also said the police service gun was a Glock in .45.
Story could change again, I suppose. This version made more sense

There's an article, ABCnews I think (I'll go look for it) that said the officer was armed with a .45 caliber Glock. Though it did not mention the model, it's a safe bet it was .45 ACP and not .45 Colt 
Edit: also, there was a pic of the outline of one of the perps bodies on the ground with a big blood stain emanating outward from the head area of the outline. Guessing that explains why the body armor worn by the perps was not of any help to them.

Did you possibly miss the case cited above of the USAF cop with the 9mm and the guy with the AK spinoff? Go back up there and read my post and the others about that incident.
It's well documented, and the range was probably greater than was the case in Garland.
And my son killed several men armed with rifles in Iraq, using both 9mm and .45 pistols. A handgun isn't a toy, in the right hands.

I'm surprised no one has answered the "what type of assault rifle" question yet. Here is a picture showing the FBI Evidence Response Team gathering evidence at the relevant crime scene. It looks like at least one of the "assault rifles" was a pistol caliber carbine. A Kel-Tec Sub-2000 (?)
I assume all those yellow plastic markers are for fired cartridge casings. If so, somebody got off a lot of rounds.

I've been reading your posts with interest. What I know is what you know, all learned from the news channels. I live two miles from the Curtis Culwell Center. So, to say the least, this is big news for our area. It's all we are talking about-the shooting, more accurately the police officer with 38 years on the force. What a man! In Texas we think highly of the Texas Rangers. Their motto is One riot, one ranger. I Watched a news conference with Garland Public Information Officer Joe Harn on our local rtelevision station. He explained that a SWAT rapid response team was on the scene prior to the shooting, and within minutes after the shooting an entire SWAT team had arrived. A local reporter, certainly trying to find some fault with law enforcement quickly asked, "Was it wise to only have the rapid response team and not the whole SWAT team? Shouldn't there have been more officers here?" Harn paused, he looked her in the eyes and said, "We had enough." Hell, we only needed one. Hats off to that officer. Prayers to the Garland ISD Security Guard that was shot by the bad guys.

If you follow the links at thegunfeed.***com you can see some detailed photos of both guns (a Kel-Tec Sub2000 and an AK variant of some kind) as well as the bloody body armor from one of the jihadis.
A rifle isn't some kind of magical device. If you have one and a guy shoots you in the face with a .45, you'll lose.

This photo shows how close the cars were during the fight -- and the orientation.
If the cop with the Glock was on the driver's side of the grey car, he could have exited and taken cover behind the engine block, giving him a 15 yard shot supported by the hood.

Los Angeles allowed cops to use semi's in 1986, some cities were earlier. This cop, who started late 1970's, probably learned early to make six shots count.
Question : Will there is looting and burning in Garland, Texas because two innocent youths were subjected to "Police Brutality" ??
