How do you guys afford our gun habit?

Well it always depends on you situation and your lady. For me it was when we had extra money we split it and she got what she wanted and I saved for what I wanted. That way we were both happy and there were no problems. If I saved three times longer then her for a much wanted gun she still knew it was fair.

I worked 2 jobs and went to college full time in the early 80's after getting out of the Army. I was married with 3 children by the time I had my 2nd degree. Then I got a really good job. I've worked hard every week.. 50+ hours. for 35 years. More when the times call for it. That and the Blessing of God has allowed me to feel entitled to 1 major addiction. I choose guns! Many my age have fancy country Club memberships, and ski resort season passes ...etc. I choose guns.. My hat goes off to those how have saved and scrimped to to buy nice guns. I am probably not as self controlled as I should be.. but I sure do have fun!
In my mind there isn't a gun I buy that can't be sold or a gun that is sold that I wouldn't buy if I have the cash and a mind to:eek:
And... my wife is Pro Gun! :D

I'm kind of at the stage now where I need to sell something to buy something new. I've been telling everyone, at least until the election, invest in lead.

Let's see.......

-Got divorced (yay!)
-Didnt have kids (double yay!)
-Work a great job as a Deputy Sheriff 42 hrs a week
-Work about 45 hours a week in off duty
-Bought a good, durable truck and paid it off
-Usually spend only on the basics, nothing fancy
-Tote my lunch/dinner with me
-Quit smoking and drinking soda/soft drinks
-Save like crazy
-Live in modest accommodations
-Dont have a television, computer or cable
-Dont go out much
-Love the used bookstore

Those have probably helped me more than anything.

If you're not 50 yet you are the younger generation. :)

Excuse me... lol.

No credit cards in this household... and I promised that there would be a divorce if I ever found one here!.

Save money and bargain shop. You'll get what you want if you're patient enough.

PS: I'm 45 years old, and still have two kids at home.

Guns are an investment. Some folks put money in the bank or stock market. I like an investment that actually grows. Buying the "right" weapons, as in S&W, Colt and others, is going to pay off when I need retirement money. Same as silver and gold. Just hope to live long enough to see if pay off. How I get the money? Hard work. One of the 53%.

The way I did it was to save while I was young and working. I worked my goat-smellin' behind off. Rarely turned down over time. Saved and invested to prepare for when I was retired, on fixed income and old.

Well now that all that has rolled around I have a little play money and I'm glad I did it. It is also very important to prioritize. Spend plenty of time thinking about what you want and have a list with the things that are most important to you at the top.

Of all the things my old man gave me, a good work ethic and some skill at handling money are high up on the list.

Being a systematic saver l used to put money in savings at the bank. Now l put it into Smith pinned revolvers. lnterest is much better on the Smiths. Right now its lead and primers as lead has risen 15% in Sept

You can't look at it as buying guns.

Instead, think of it as though you are simply borrowing a gun for free. Of course you will need to put down a deposit on that gun, which you will normally get back in full when you are done using it (sometimes more than you put down). So guns are free! Ammo? Cast and reload, so nearly free.

Never looked at it like that Rob.I'm really on the fence of getting rid of my SS Taurus 740 and replace it with the 40c.I have a feeling once i get the 40c my 740 will almost never get touched.

Cheapest prices i've found so far is on Buds Police Supply. Glad they offer us LEO/Military prices.Even my LGS couldn't give me a price on a 40c lower than 475.00

The 40c is $399 and the 40c with night sights is $455. Both with three mags.

I'd get the night sights (at least that's how I have been buying them.... )

Oh and for savings.... I shop prices (as most of you can see :D ) and don't like to overpay for anything.

Never really thought of managing money much, I just buy what I want. And yes I have 3 kids at home.

For play money I just started the Lincoln Savings Plan. Every $5 bill I get I save. Wow does that add up quick! Stopped at the bank to cash a check, got 3 fives back so that gets squirreled away. Buy lunch for $4 with a twenty, get a five back and save it. At this rate we'll be able to afford a nice cruise by spring for all 5 of us! :D

I've been working since I'm 13 years old and I'm now 58. Somewhere at an early age the gun bug bit me and that was at an early age. As soon as I could legally own handguns I've been buying them ever since. When times were real good there were a lot of purchases made and some one on top of the other.
That's one of the reasons I go to work every day!
I like the $5. saving idea mentioned above by Lost Lake, may have to give that a try since $20 dollar bills fly out of your pocket today like ones!

Iggy, I too put a small amount in my safe not to be touched.
I'll pay cash with what I have saved, my wife and I have a "DON'T ASK DON'T TELL" policy. She never asks what I got and I don't tell.

Save a little each pay day and in time go for a cash discount.

Yep waiting for them to get them in.I'm on the waiting list.

Me? same as K. Dailey.
Didn't get into handguns until later in life.
In 7 years I have made up for lost time. My Son is an only child. He likes what he sees coming his way someday.

All the money I would have spent on diapers, I was able to spend on more interesting items. Married 21 years - no kids. That's how I afford...

i would suggest a single stage setup...the RCBS rockchucker comes as a complete setup kit except for dies..which you need for each caliber...it's fun, easy, and you save a lot of money...last i looked the rockchucker kit was under $300

I decided to go with the Lee 4 hole Turret Press Kit.I looked at it at Midway and i also watched the setup on youtube, and it looks pretty simple. Two pieces of advice i got where to purchase a digital scale to use instead of the analog one that comes with the kit and the Lee Auto-Disk Powder Measure Update Kit.
