How do you store your ammo?

I store the 4,000 22lr and 500 .40S&W rounds I presently have in the boxes they came in, on a shelf.

Ammo cans, metal tool boxes, Tupperware containers, coffee cans (plastic and metal) just about anything that will contain a bullet.

I use ziplock sandwich bags, Sharpie marked with the recipe, in 50 count. I like the plastic screw-top bulk pretzel jugs for storing my reloads. I cleared out my hallway linen closet and repurposed into my ammo/powder/primer storage. Pretzel jugs in .38, .357, 9MM, .45ACP, .44Mag on the floor. Shelf above has 5.56 pretzel jugs. Then powder shelves and primer shelf is the top. Deadbolt on a solid pine door to keep prying eyes out.

I am starting to gain weight trying to eat enough pretzel and candy to get the jugs. I store my brass and bullets in the clear plastic canisters that Walmart sells. My bullets and brass really looks so decorative on the shelves above my reloading bench Don

This my first time on forum to ask anything, I have een storing my powder in a thin walled steel locker style safe. What would be a good way or better way to store my powder? Mike22-4

Ammo goes in Hefty brand "ziplock" bags.
The "freezer" variety.

Bags go in ammo can.

For ALL types of ammo.

Don't buy Ziplock brand "ziplock" bags.
Ziplock bags are markedly inferior to Hefty.

Question for you ammo collectors and reloaders. How do you store bulk ammo? The darling husband seems to think that we need to have the .223 in 100 round boxes after he reloads. I think that after checking each round we can put them loose in an ammo can. He thinks that can damage the bullet. I said it should only affect the bullet if the crimp is bad. Who is right?

He doesn't hesitate to put the reloaded 9mm and 45 acp's loose in a bag after checking each round.

A darling wife always does what her husband asks. However, the darling wife is always right! Don't ask me how I know this.

The last few years I've come to prefer using the MTM style boxes neatly stacked in ammo cans. Easier for me to access which flavor I'm taking to the range.

I store my powder in either an old footlocker (SE Asia souvenir) or in it's original packaging on shelves in my shop. I don't store it in anything that won't allow pressure to vent. (in case of fire). I know SAAMI has specific recommendations about using a certain thickness of wood and other things. I tend to ignore them.

do you have a problem with getting moisture in resealed containers?

No, but I use powder at a rapid rate. (around 2# per month now, I've slowed down since my major surgery in Jan) But I wouldn't worry about moisture in factory containers. A couple of years ago I came across a partial can of W231 that I hadn't seen since the mid '80s. It worked like normal.

Agreed. I'm just now finishing off a bunch of (Hercules) powder I bought on close-out in the early/mid 80's & kept in the original (cardboard with tin ends) containers. No problems.

Like m657 said, "I've come to prefer using the MTM style boxes neatly stacked in ammo cans." Works for me too.

I store everything accept 22 ammo in MTM 100 rd cases, I have probably accumulated 200 cases. Loading ammo is very addicting, but its like money in the bank.

Plastic boxes, 50 and 100 rounds, those get stacked into plastic or metal ammo cans. I don't care for loose ammo, just dumped into a box, bag or can. But that's just how I prefer to store them.
I guess the big reason is I can take out one or two boxes and go shooting without having to lug a big heavy ammo can full of loose ammo around with me.
I tend to try different powders and bullets so each box is labeled with the date and load data.

Typically I store my ammo in component form. I load what I'm going to need just before a match or trip to the range. I case gauge every round in my 100 round gauge (pic below) then dump them in a soft zippered bag (# of rounds depends on the match) I like the soft loose option because I can stuff it in my range bag in places where a hard case wouldn't work, and when I'm reloading mags at a match I can just grab a handful of rounds and load them into the mag without needing a table to put a ammo box on. I do have a couple of thousand pre-loaded rounds for instances where unexpected need for ammo come up. I just use old factory boxes (that I got from friends or pulled out of the trash can at the range) and put a label on them. I rarely have to use them but they are there if I do.
