Greetings,
How does either of these with factory grips fit your hand?
Does it feel good? I remember when I had a 1066 with the flat backstrap and it felt so wrong to me. The curved ones felt much better.
Is it the same for these 9mm's? I know there is Hogue's for them, are there curved backstrap grips?
How does your pinky fit with or without the magazine pad/rest? Is there room left?
Thanks alot guys.
take care

I find the 3rd generation grips to be very particular to your hand. My 3913 is OK with the std. factory grips, but much better with Hogue rubber grips.

My 4566 was uncomfortable with both the straight and curved factory grips but, much better with (again) Hogue rubber grips.

My 5904 feels perfect with the std. curved factory grips.

It may cost you a few bucks to try out some until you find the right ones.

Good Luck, Jerry

I agree that the Hogue grips are a substantial improvement. I have them on my 908 and they feel like they belong.

Thanks guys.
How much of your hand fits on the grip?
Does your pinky fit on just the grip with room to spare or do you need the magazine base pad with or without the finger rest?

I put the finger rest base pads on all my 3913 mags as this really assists my shooting the piece accurately - I have large hands. These are easy to change so do what fits best for you.

I am a big guy with fairly small hands. The original grips on my 3913 fit my hand better than most autos. I like the Hogues I have on it because they add more curve to the back strap and make it point better. Also, the original grips are a bit slippery. The magazines with the finger rest feel better for me...Frizz

None of them fit as well as an M&P compact with the small backstrap.

I wish the factory grips on my 3913 grips worked well, they look better than the rubber Hogues...but between the thickness and the curve at the base, the improve my ability to handle the gun 100%. I prefer the pinky extension mags, too. Would like to try a set of the Hogue woods on the gun, but don't want to pop for a new set at 90 bucks or so.

My 3913 non-finger rest mags still allow me to get my pinky on the gun, the finger rest is better. I took off the grey plastic ones for the Hogues, I like the feel much better. I too would like to get some wood grips...

My 908 feels great with the standard straight grip. I didn't think I would like the style, since I love the arched mainspring housings on 1911s. After shooting a friend's 908 at my concealed carry class, I found out it fits well. Granted, I've never tried the Hogues.

I prefer the extended mag base pads, although my hands aren't overly large. They provide more purchase area (always good even with a mild round like 9mm) and don't effect concealability to any detrimental amount.

The one item I don't like is the rather sharp edge on the lower part of the trigger guard. Shooting strong or weak hand, the metal rubs my middle finger badly. On both my Glock 26 and CZ 100, I had the same irritation, so I used a fine rattail file to relieve the edge. That's not as practical on an aluminum framed gun.

That seems to be a pitfall of almost all Smith sutos...........just did the rattail job to the trigger guard on an M&P .45.............the design is both too wide, and not rounded enough.....easily corrected with polymer, have to wonder if it is worth defacing the metal on a 3rd generation gun..........unless you NEVER trade.

I am a relatively tall guy, 6'4", with large hands and my 908 with Hogues fits great. Albeit with the mags that have extension. I bought it used without the factory grips so I cannot really comment on them.
