Stumbled across a small shop today and so I had to go check it out. There in the case was a like new 1976 vintage 6" (turned out to be a 5") 27-2 in a close to perfect presentation case with all tools and paperwork. Price was fair especially for an off CA roster piece. No brainer under normal circumstances right?
First problem is that paperwork couldn't be started for another week (don't ask). Second problem is that it's located about 70 miles from home, meaning I'd need to drive 140 miles round trip next week to do paperwork and then wait 10 days (CA) and drive another 140 miles to pick it up! The things that tear at the soul of an S&W addict:(

Made the 3rd trip today. Pictures added
Looks like every other LNIB 5" 27-2 except this ones finally mine.

You are talking about giving up two afternoons.

Normally I would not do what you need to do, but I live in a FREE State. Plus I already have lots of 27s.

However, if I lived in California (had no 27s) and came across that opportunity, the revolver would already be paid for and waiting for me to come back and start the paperwork.

In CA and the condition you describe is a good deal even with the drive you speak of. About an hour drive is my limit for something that I really want :)

370 Miles

I drove 370 miles on December 27th in the rain and less than 30 degrees (to the edge of the mountains) (yes there was some ice) for a five inch pre 27. So 70 miles in May/June is a Sunday afternoon drive.

You live in CA, people there drive 70 miles for a cup of joe. DO IT!!!!!!

I once drove 75 miles each way for a 3.5" 27-2, in the box. The worst thing was it had a slight blemish on the cylinder like someone got a little blood on it, the area was small, almost the size of a pencil eraser but since I drove all the way down to Salinas to look at it, I figured I might as well buy it. 10 days later I had to do another 150 mile round trip to pick it up but at least a squeezed a work appointment in along the way.

I had them mailed to my lgs. Simple $30 to do the paperwork cheaper than my time and gas. My online dealer is awesome.

I did drive to Wal-Mart that's a mile away in a blizzard to buy a fishing lure I seen Hank Parker use in NH
I think about it now how dumb that was in January when the ice was on. But I caught so many bass on that one lure I'm glad I bought the whole rack at Wal-Mart that snowy day.

Called the shop hoping I could give them a C/C to hold it until they can start paperwork on the 8th. No dice, was told that I have to do it in person. If it's still there Monday I'll have to do the first of 3 round trips:eek: Sure envy you Free-State people and thanks for not talking me out of it, us addicts have to stick together;)

Month or so ago, member here from AZ had an exquisite 3.5" S pre-fix for a FTF only sale.
As much as I'd love to have bought it, it was too much and too far for me. I did have a buddy that went to Vegas at this same time and I mentioned to him about while in the neighborhood.
He offered to pickup in Kingman but I didn't bother to find out how far that was for the seller.
This thread reminded me of how nice that 27 was.

I once drove 125 miles in an ice storm to buy a Parker VH in 410. Her uncle had swapped his Stevens 311 410 double when he brought her Dads guns to her. I was more than ticked off. My uncle her uncle, I was told he was a drunk and a thief. No need to follow up he sold it per my uncle. Ice, freezing rain all for a Parker that was gone. Ive owned many 27s wouI'mld not do that for one unless it was better weather.
my uncle knew her uncle. This ipad wont cooperate on edit.

Several years ago I drove that far to work every day.
Go Get It. Hurry before someone else beats you to it.

How long you been wanting a Model 27? How many do you find, in the condition described, for a good price that you can buy in California? I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Hopefully it's still there when you go back!

No way I can get back until Monday. I'm getting kind of anxious now because I remember it had a ramped front sight which leads me to believe it may well have been a 5 inch.

Why don't you just PM me with the location and I'll save you the drive. It might even be be closer to me which would be help the environment.

Sounds too good to pass up....and...if it were a 5 inch, you can add another 50%. I'm warming up the car right now!

What's wrong with some people? :):) Hope it all works out to your benefit.
