How good is M&P series?

Had they made the M&P in 10mm Auto three years ago, I would have bought one. Because they haven't seen fit to chamber one in the mighty 10mm, I purchased a Glock Model 20. End of story.

I have been considering getting my CCW for a while and finally made plans to take the local class (this was about a year ago now). I researched for months, shot a lot of my friends' guns (including a lot of Glocks) and heard about the new 9c. I compared the specs and went to the local range. I rented and shot it side by side with the Glock 26 and there was no comparison! the M&P looked better and felt better. The prices and specs were extremely similar, so it all came down to feel. Right after I got my CCW I went right out and bought the 9c. I have shot thousands of rounds through it and it's with me every day. Wouldn't get rid of it for the world!

IMHO their the best polymer pistols on the market. Just put 150 more trouble free rounds through my 45. 50 magtech, and 100 wwb, both are tack driving accurate.

I did it. I broke the rules and bought a gun with out shooting it first...I bought a M&P 40 full size. I can not wait untill I get it on Tuesday. I have heard nothing but good things regaurding its comfort and reliability.. I got it new with tritium sights for a good deal...How could I go wrong....Right?

I am indeed with Springdale PD, 21 years and counting. Our guy who did the research on the switch talked extensively with the CPD firearms guys, played a part in our decision, as well as feedback from T&E trigger time offered to everyone on our dept. I really like mine, looking for a compact for off duty.

Of the 4, 9mm guns that I own now. I place them in this order.
1. Beretta 8000 Cougar (since I can now buy large capacity mags for it).
2. M&P 9
3. Glock 26
4. Beretta PX4 9mm.
I like the Cougar the best because it fits my hand better than the others, no it’s not polymer but I still like it the best of all the 9mm I have shot.
I like the PX4 the lest because of the poor fit and finish of many of the parts. It was an early gun but having a cheep roll pin sticking out the top of the gun doesn’t do much for me.
The Smith M&P is a very nice gun and I like shooting it but I only picked it up early last month and haven’t shot it enough to feel real confident with it yet. Even with confidence in the gun I still think that the old Cougar would be my favorite of the bunch. I can just shoot the heck out of it and its had so many rounds through it without a single failure.

Just received my January 2008 issue of "Gun Tests" Their comment: "S&W's M&P45 is a big, easy-to-shoot gun that we liked a lot. We'd buy it ahead of the previously tested Glock 21 SF and the H&K USP45C." Their gun tests grade for each gun is:
S&W M&P45: A-
Glock 21 SF: B+
H&K USP45C: C-

Really like the .45.

Been looking for awhile at the M&P 45. Read the comments on this post and thought about it some more. Talked to the owner of the gun shop I do business at and went and bought it today, now I got to wait 10 days to take it home. At least since he has a range down stairs I can go and shoot it till then. Range report later this week.

I did the big bro lil bro thing with my M&P 40's, i started with the fullsize and loved it so much i bought the compact 2 weeks later.

For me...the M&P series are a huge hit for S&W! Finally! I mean...they hit a home run with this series! I carried a Glock in one form or another during probably half of my 20 year law enforcement carrier (and still counting!) but never really cared for them much. I much preferred my 1911's or Sig's or Beretta's. My favorite all time S&W is (was) the 645 45acp. But recently...I think my M&P 45 has taken over that spot. I have a 45, 40, and a compact 40 and they are all super and 100% reliable for me! The ergonomics are superior to any other gun of their size/configuration that I have found...and I have owned just about all of them out there over the years! The trigger is outstanding for a double action auto and the sights are fantastic...add that to the 100% reliability for me...and I look no further!
Of course that is all subjective as what feels good to me may not feel good to another...but for me...these M&P's are at the top of the heap now!

As I posted awhile back, I got the 9mm compact for Christmas. So far, about 950 rounds of FMJ, Gold Dots and Win.JHP have gone thru it. I have not had a single problem. It's now my everyday carry.
