I am going through all the ammo my dad left me and the one caliber i don't have is 41 magnum, despite having a 41 mag Smith. So how hard is 41 mag factory ammo to find?

Anything you reload will be cheaper than factory prices. I never could have afforded to shoot all the ammo over the years without reloading.

A LGS has it for $75.00 per box of 50! I reload and cast bullets for it so............................I never run out!

I bought a few boxes of 210 SWC 41 mag at Georgia Arms for just under 50 cents per round.

"NEW" .41 Rem Mag 210gr Lead Semi-Wadcutter 100pk

There are a few other places that sell 41 Mag under $1 per round -- including Cabelas

HSM Bear Load Handgun Ammunition : Cabela's

The Georgia Arms 210's are cheaper than any 44 Magnum load that Ammoseek.com has listed.

I think 41 Magnum's reputation for high prices is a little over done. But it is rarer and harder to find than 44 mag.

That said, I'm planning to buy factory ammo until I have a reasonable number of cases and then start reloading.

I'm not sure where you're located, but I ran in to the same problem after I bought my S&W Model 57. I really like the caliber, it's tougher than a .357 but doesn't have the mule kick of a .44. I also really enjoy taking my Model 57 to the range for some R&R.

The prices and availability may be driven by the post-Sandy Hook era. Manufacturers seem to be primarily focused on the most demanded calibers, which the .41 caliber isn't. In March of last year I paid $64.99 for a box of 50 in Nashville at Bass Pro. That cured me!!

I now use Atlanta Arms and Ammo's remanufactured .41s. I can buy a box of 50 at $28.00 out-the-door at most ranges in the Atlanta area.

ATLANTA ARMS & AMMO

The Marine Corps Shooting Team also uses their ammo. That's good enough for me, any day of the week!

In 40 years of reloading, I have found 5 pieces of fired 41 mag brass at a range. In 40 years, I've hung out at lot of ranges.

As a hard core brassaholic, my wife has ordered me to only bring home the brass I fired. I have never bought a box of 44 mag ammo, but do have 1600 loaded rounds sitting on the shelf. The shed holds 19 gallons of polished and tumbled 45 ACP. I no longer pickup 9 MM or 40 S&W brass because there is no storage space left.

Yup -- 41 mag brass is scarce.

IMO your best bet price wise would be factory reloads from Georgia Arms. I think last time I looked they had .41 Magnum ammo, jacketed stuff was $30/50 rounds and lead was $25/50 rounds. Factory firsts will probably cost you no less than $1/round.

.41Magnum ammo

Not particularly. As much as I shoot the .41Magnum though, it is simpler to crank a couple thousand rounds out on the ol' Dillon RL650. Those 8 pounders of Unique go fast for the everyday loads.
