HOW I GOT MY HANDLE

After my 2nd knee replacement when I was pretty far along in my rehab, I walked one lap around the park behind my house in good days. Once when my BIL was in town on business he dropped by for a visit and Miss Pam told him I was out walking.

When I finished my walk that day I was coming up the sidewalk to my house and he was standing there waiting for me. When he saw me he hollered out, "Here he comes...WALKIN' JACK." That has been my nick name ever since.

I guess it fits because after 3 knee jobs on the left knee I'm still...walkin'.

Well, I would use the handle that my wife calls me....

...but I would be banned.:(

I've had a few 'nicknames' in my life but probably the one that stuck the most when I was running track in high school my friends started calling me Dr. Zachary Smith after the guy on 'Lost In Space'. Soon it just became 'Zack'. There are people that still call me Zack today.

Current handle

My current handle, Chubbo, was originally, Chub.

The name Chub, was given to me by neighbor kids, circa 1930s, and modified, by them, to Chubbo, shortly after. The handle was fitting, as then I was, a bit, roly poly.

This thread has reminded me of several handles I've had, used, and almost forgotten, during my lifetime. Some are as follows.

Switzer, being of Swiss descent, a family handle.
Scubas, by my Dad, from a character in the comic strip Gasoline Alley.
Jo Bob, a favored Uncle.
Wiretwister, a CB radio handle.
And a few others that I won't mention.

Chubbo

I have several old cars, 57 Chevy Bel Air, 49 Cadillac Fleetwood and a 41 Buick Roadmaster. I thought that 41 Roadmaster just had a pretty good ring to it. I thought about the nickname that my wife has for me but after reading the rules I saw that just wasn't gonna fly.

Years ago, around 1995, some guys from work wanted to play a game on line. Since I needed a name to play, I just made this one up. It's unique and works on every site I go to.

Sorry, not a very interesting story.

All I could tell them was," Aw hell, Iggy was my friend."
I don't use the word friend lightly. It means a lot to me to be someone's friend and they mine. A friend is someone you can call in the middle of they night, say you need them and the just come, even if they have to drive 800 miles to get to you. They don't question the need because they know you wouldn't be calling at that time if you didn't really need them.

A friend is someone who will support you even though they know your wrong. Moreover, they're not afraid to tell you you're wrong and straighten your behind out. A friend listens without interrupting.

A friend is someone who shows up at the funeral even though no one else will.

I never met the original Iggy or the one who frequents this forum. However, I know he was a true friend to someone. I would be glad to shake his hand.

Did a lot of hydrodynamics early on. It's the expression for "vorticity" .

While I’m not from the city of Kalamazoo (a cesspool), I do live in NW Kalamazoo County. A neighbor and well known fisherman by the name of Kevin Van Dam tried to take the name but while sharing a campfire one evening I told him he was going to have to choose something else. He’s been KVD ever since! [emoji41][emoji481]

I agree with Rastoff, Iggy, that was a great tribute to someone who really needed someone to call "Friend".

My "Handle" back in those CB days was Torque wrench, as I pretty much made a living out of twisting wrenches, and I told everyone I had a calibrated elbow. Wrangler Rich is my SASS alias, and it was all I could think of when I joined up here. I love this forum!

I have always enjoyed learning, that is really the origin of the story.

As a result, I have had many interests in collecting, classic cars, fossils, antiques, vintage radios, firearms, advertising, and on and on.

When encouraging new members to the firearms community, I always share that this is one of the few hobbies where the learning and innovation is never ending. There is truly so much history, engineering, craftsmanship, you name it, this hobby has got it.

My SASS name is “Tenderfoot Tom” because cowboy boots hurt my feet. That’s me with the Sharps rifle and my Ole Pard “Ruthless Les” with the 12 ga. street howitzer.
I developed the name “tndrfttom” as my old AOL screen name for my cowboy-related communications and also used it for a few other things.
