Colt Combat Commander
A good belt and holster are musts. About a year ago some guy's gun fell out of its holster at a Publix grocery store a couple of miles from my house. The thing went off, travel down an isle, and went into the meat dept as I recall. Luckily, no one was hit. I don't know if he faced any sort of charge.
What type of gun was he carrying, that it went off by striking the floor?
I carried for about 6 months and felt very self conscious...then I started wearing a shirt and it went away.
Lots of good info here
The belt is under appreciated: you need a good one, along with a good holster. Best to get both from the same maker - order them together. I use only Del Fatti or Milt Sparks. Plan to spend $400+ and wait.
If you are very familiar with your handgun, it's manual of arms and your leather, you'll be comfortable and safe. That takes many hours over many days. Lots and lots of practice - 95% if it dry firing, before you ever carry outside your home.
I think the first weapon I carried concealed was a Ruger p89. I had moved to South Dakota in 1990. I worked at a boarding school for Native American youth and had summers and holidays off, which meant that I did a lot of travelling back and forth between Arkansas and South Dakota each year. It was (and still is) relatively easy to get a CCW permit in South Dakota. I think I carried the P89 in an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster. It took a long time to get used to carrying concealed.
Since then, I've owned several weapons and holsters for concealed carry. One of my favorites was a Kahr K9 in a Galco IWB holster. Currently, I carry a S&W 642 (it took me a long time to warm up to aluminum revolvers and revolvers with internal hammers). I love my 642. It is lightweight and convenient. I carry when I travel to visit family in Arkansas or Colorado. I also work at a convenience store (I'm there now) and carry when I work there. We are a small town. But right now, there are hundreds of people from every corner of the country passing through on their way to Sturgis. I prepare.
About a year ago, I obtained a Browning Hi-Power. I traded my friend my Model 10-3 for it. I am not confident in carrying in condition 1. I promised to sell/trade it back to my friend if I ever parted with it. I really miss my K frame revolver. So, as soon as he purchases the Hi Power back, I will be in the hunt for a 2 inch or 3 inch K frame that will be my primary CCW piece.
What is condition 2 on a Hi Power?
